Wed, 15 May 2013 11:08:01 -0700 Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh said he has been very impressed with QB Jay Cutler this offseason. "Very impressed with Jay," Cavanaugh said. "Very impressed. He's borderline football brilliant. I think he gets it. I think he knows the game. I think he knows offensive schemes. I think he knows defenses." Cavanaugh said the coaches are open to listening to Cutler's ideas about the offense and that Cutler will have a say in the offense. Fantasy Tip: Cutler has performed pretty well since joining the Bears but he does struggle with interceptions at times. It sounds like Cutler will be involved in the offense, which should help his understanding of the system from the start. Owners should consider him as a strong backup quarterback on fantasy teams.
Wed, 01 May 2013 16:33:04 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler is happy to see the team's management made protecting their quarterback a priority after adding to the offensive line through free agency and with two draft picks. The team added OT Jermon Bushrod and OG Matt Slauson via free agency, and then picked OG Kyle Long with the 20th overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft before selecting OT Jordan Mills in the fifth round. "(The coaching staff is) going to make sure everyone knows their assignments and we are protected," Cutler said in a radio interview. Fantasy Tip: The additions should give Cutler more time to find open receivers, and should add to his statistics. As long as WR Brandon Marshall remains healthy, Cutler has a top-notch target to make him a low-end No. 1 QB, or solid No. 2 for those leagues which require two starters at the position.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 08:08:47 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said Wednesday, March 13, it appears he'll be entering the 2013 season on the last year of his contract instead of landing an extension. "Yeah, I think that's probably the way we're headed," Cutler said. "We haven't really talked about anything. We're upgrading in certain positions and I don't think we're really in position to do my deal." Cutler is hoping to remain with the team long-term.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 08:02:24 -0800 Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Thursday, Feb. 21, at the NFL Scouting Combine there has not been any indication the team would meet with QB Jay Cutler's agent about a possible extension at some point this offseason. "I haven't discussed any of that with Jay or with Phil (Emery) up to this point," Trestman said.
Thu, 21 Feb 2013 07:18:13 -0800 New Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Thursday, Feb. 21, at the NFL Scouting Combine he is looking forward to working with QB Jay Cutler. "I'm excited to work with him in all facets of the game," Trestman said.
Sat, 16 Feb 2013 11:43:34 -0800 Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh said that he wants to work with QB Jay Cutler before saying if he is an elite quarterback but believes he has the ability to win a lot of games. "I think anybody that's starting in this league you hope they're a franchise quarterback," Cavanaugh said. "I think he's got all the ability. But let us spend some time (with him). I've seen him from afar. I want to see him up close. I want to be able to talk to him. I want to be able to work with him. I think he's got a ton of talent, and I know you can win a lot of games with it."
Mon, 21 Jan 2013 08:41:07 -0800 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler was involved in the team's search for a new head coach, and he met with head coach Marc Trestman before he was hired.
Wed, 16 Jan 2013 10:06:36 -0800 Former NFL WR Tim Brown said he has doubts whether Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman will succeed with his new team. Brown played under Trestman, who once served as offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders. Brown wonders whether Trestman has the leadership skills to lead an NFL team. "(There's a lot more to coaching than just Xs and Os," Brown said. "You have to be able to deal with players and that's the reason (former Oakland Raiders head coach) Bill Callahan hasn't succeeded as a head coach. Because he's a smart guy, knows football like the back of his hand, but when it comes to leading (men), it's a totally different intangible you have to have. It's going to be very interesting to see how (Trestman) and Jay Cutler get along, that's for sure."
Wed, 16 Jan 2013 09:50:46 -0800 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he is in favor of the team's hiring of Marc Trestman as head coach. "It's a great hire. I couldn't be more excited. He's been successful wherever he's been," Cutler said.
Wed, 26 Dec 2012 05:15:41 -0800 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has played for three offensive coordinators with the team and if current coordinator Mike Tice is relieved of his duties, it would make it four in five years. Cutler said he is hoping for more stability at the position. "It's hard for an offense and as a quarterback to get to where you want to be and be consistent on a weekly basis if you're changing coordinators every couple of years. That's a reality. I think it's an overlooked fact. I thought he did a good job. We're not done yet," Cutler said. "It's a difficult job where we had a lot of injuries on the offensive line, first year of the offense and you're expected to go out there and rip it up. But it's just reality. It's the first year of the offense."
