Rangers | Two sent down

Fri, 22 Mar 2013 10:55:26 -0700

The Texas Rangers optioned SP Justin Grimm to Triple-A Round Rock and reassigned SP Randy Wells to minor league camp Friday, March 22.

Rangers | Randy Wells has best outing

Thu, 14 Mar 2013 16:33:29 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Randy Wells gave up one run in five innings Thursday, March 14, while giving up three hits and walking four and striking out four. "From the get go, I felt good," Wells said. "I was able to make a pitch when I needed to and it was nice to get out there, stretch it out and go five innings." The outing was likely good enough to keep him in the competition with SPs Robbie Ross and Justin Grimm for the last rotation spot. P Nick Tepesch remains a dark horse candidate.

Rangers | Randy Wells still in discussion

Thu, 07 Mar 2013 12:22:37 -0800

Texas Rangers SP Randy Wells is still in the discussion with RP Robbie Ross for the team's No. 5 starting spot, and Wells easily has the most experience of the candidates. Wells has allowed only one earned run despite allowing nine baserunners in four innings in his first two spring starts. "The last time out he didn't have his changeup, and that is his weapon," manager Ron Washington said. "If he has that, he should get through his four innings with no problem."
