Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (knee) said Dr. James Andrews told him that he has a chance to play football again in four months, which would mean a return in August or September, reports Omar Kelly, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Pennington said he is not sure if that is an optimistic timetable but is working to accomplish it. He has a brace on his knee but is able to walk without any crutches. He said his rehab should not be very challenging because it was a clean tear.

Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (shoulder), who is set to become a free agent during the offseason, said he has accepted the possibility of signing with another team, reports The Associated Press. He also realizes no team may be interested in him, which he is OK with. The Dolphins may be inclined to re-sign him, as he has ties to Brian Daboll, who is expected to be signed as the team's offensive coordinator. Pennington, who is trying to return from a fourth surgery on his throwing shoulder, said his recovery will be a daily and weekly process and there may be a point his body simply cannot go on any further with rehab. He noted he still has the desire and passion to play, so he has to see what his options are provided his body is able to hold up physically.

Pro Football Weekly reports, according to sources, the Miami Dolphins are not expected to head into the 2010 season with four quarterbacks on the roster. With QB Chad Henne firmly entrenched as the starter, QBs Tyler Thigpen, Chad Pennington and Pat White are the candidates to be moved. Thigpen appears to be the most likely to be traded, and the Dolphins would like to move him before the NFL Draft. However, teams in need of a backup could wait until closer to training camp to make a swap to fill that hole, and there's a good chance the Dolphins will have to wait a bit longer to find a suitor.
