Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte continues to seek a long-term contract, and the deals of others is likely to affect negotiations. Forte's agent is likely to look at the new deal for Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy, while the Bears might point to the deal the Jacksonville Jaguars gave to RB Maurice Jones-Drew. The negotiations between the Baltimore Ravens and RB Ray Rice also are important, as both players have similar values.

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said RB Maurice Jones-Drew is not doing himself any favors by skipping organized team activities, especially with a new offense in place. "It's not helping him by not being here, he'll have a lot of learning to catch up on," Bratkowski said. "But yet, he's a gifted and talented player and I'm sure he can get caught up. It's certainly not helping him. Whether it's hurting him or not, that remains to be seen."

Jaguars | Coach expects Maurice Jones-Drew to be fine without OTAs

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said he expects RB Maurice Jones-Drew will be fine with the new offense even though he is not taking part in organized team activities. Mularkey said Jones-Drew has been given the same limited playbook the other players have received. Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said Jones-Drew will have to catch up on a lot of things but is confident he will be able to when he arrives.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had no discussions about a contract extension with RB Maurice Jones-Drew, according to a team spokesman. The running back has two years left on the five-year, $31 million deal that he signed in 2009.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew skipped the first day of organized team activities Tuesday, May 15, and head coach Mike Mularkey said the running back wants a contract extension. "He's talked about trying to get an extension for his contract, which I think everybody's aware of," Mularkey said. "I'm on the coaching end of those matters. I talk to him about football and what I can do for him on the field and in the locker room." Jones-Drew is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season, considerably less than other top backs.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew did not attend the start of the team's offseason workouts Tuesday, April 17, and it's believed that the reason is contract related. He currently has two years left on his deal that makes him the eighth highest paid rusher in the league despite being the league's leading rusher in 2011.
