The Associated Press reports St. Louis Rams DL Claude Wroten has been suspended without pay for the season Wednesday, July 23, for violating the National Football League's substance abuse policy. He is eligible to be reinstated May 30, 2009.

Dorsey said Buffalo Bills DL Kyle Williams and St. Louis Rams DL Claude Wroten taught him how to play hard and use his athleticism.

"I knew I didn't play well last season, so I didn't have any room to relax. I decided to stay at it," Wroten said. He said he wanted to get a "head start" on his teammates, who reported for the start of the team's offseason conditioning program this week.

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports St. Louis Rams DL Claude Wroten was arrested late last week and charged with criminal damage to property after an alleged argument with a girlfriend who had told him she was ending their relationship. According to LSU police, Wroten kicked down the door to his girlfriend's campus apartment and forcibly entered the residence after she refused to return items he had asked her to return. Wroten was taken to the offices of the LSU police in handcuffs, issued a summons and released. He remains free pending a hearing. The date for the hearing has not yet been set.

Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan has been buoyed by the steady progress of several young players. Included in that group is rookie DT Claude Wroten, who, Linehan stressed, had taken major strides in practice since the first preseason contest, a 19-17 win over Indianapolis Aug. 10. "He's had his best four or five days," Linehan said. "His improvement from the (Colts) game to where he's playing now has been a highlight." An interior lineman who can pressure the passer is a valued commodity, and that's what Wroten did best at Louisiana State. In two seasons, he rolled up 12 sacks and 34 quarterback pressures. Nick Wagoner, of StLouisRams.com, reports St. Louis Rams DL Claude Wroten will join the defensive tackle rotation primarily as DL La'Roi Glover's backup. He should get plenty of playing time during the 2006 season and will likely get chances as a pass rushing tackle on third down. Head coach Scott Linehan said, "He obviously gives us some inside help at tackle; we were lacking some depth there. He will be the swing guy from the beginning."

StLouisRams.com reports St. Louis Rams DL Claude Wroten will likely have a chance to learn the ropes during the 2006 season while DLs Jimmy Kennedy and La'Roi Glover are ahead of him in the defensive tackle rotation. Wroten should still have a chance to contribute and could fit in as a situational pass rusher. He has the potential to play defensive end in some 3-4 alignments.

Glenn Guilbeau, of The News-Star, reports two sports agents have said LSU DL Claude Wroten tested positive for drugs at the NFL Combine in February in Indianapolis, according to NFL draft expert Mike Detillier. "The agents I spoke with are very reliable," Detillier said in a telephone interview. "They don't make this stuff up. These drug tests usually leak out." Wroten said this week that the story is not true. Wroten's father, Claude Wroten Sr., also said he does not believe his son failed a drug test at the NFL Combine.

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins may be in line to draft a defensive tackle with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. The team has already expressed an interest by bringing in defensive tackles for visits during free agency. Some possible defensive tackles that may be available with the 16th pick include Florida State DT Brodrick Bunkley, Michigan DT Gabe Watson, Texas DT Rodrique Wright and Louisiana State DT Claude Wroten, who was coached by Dolphins' head coach Nick Saban in college.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Louisiana State DL Claude Wroten, who did work out at the NFL Combine, pulled up on his first 40-yard dash run on March 4. He was timed at 1.82 seconds for the first 10 yards and 2.87 seconds for the first 20 yards. He was able to complete 24 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press on March 4, but was able to complete 26 repetitions on his second attempt March 16. He was still unable to run during his second Pro Day, but will try again on March 25.

He was arrested Jan. 4 by Sterlington police and charged after a routine traffic stop with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Officers allege Wroten had two bags of marijuana in his car and more than $3,200 in cash in his wallet.

Jordan Blum, of the Shreveport Times, reports Louisiana State All-American senior DT Claude Wroten was arrested late Wednesday, Jan. 4, on charges of felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Wroten was pulled over for speeding and was asked if he had anything illegal in the car, to which he admitted having marijuana for personal consumption. Wroten also had $4,000 in his pocket, which he claimed was on loan from his financial adviser to prepare for NFL training.
