Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:20:18 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Earlier reports said Davis had back spasms, and he expected to play in Week 5. However, his status for the next game appears to be anything but a certainty at this point. Derek Carrier would take on added important if Davis is back on the shelf.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) is expected to start Sunday, Sept. 28, for their Week 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

49ers | 49ers optimistic about Vernon Davis

Sat, 27 Sep 2014 20:37:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) is questionable for the team's Week 4 game, but head coach Jim Harbaugh said he is "optimistic" that Davis will play.

Fantasy Tip: While Davis still isn't a lock to suit up, Harbaugh's comments seem to indicate that he has a good chance to play in Week 4. Meanwhile, a matchup against a Philadelphia defense ranked 30th against the pass should provide Davis with the potential for a big game. He will cost 14.2% of the cap ($7,100) at FantasyScore, but make sure to check back tomorrow for any more updates before committing to him.

49ers | Vernon Davis uncertain for Week 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 20:09:51 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) said Friday, Sept. 26, that he still feels some pain in his ankle and expects to be a game-time decision for the Week 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Officially, he is listed as questionable.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners and those in weekly leagues will want to steer far clear of Davis. If Davis is inactive, Vance McDonald ($3700) and Derek Carrier ($3700) might each be deep sleepers at just 7.4 percent of the salary cap.

49ers | Vernon Davis non-committal on status

Fri, 26 Sep 2014 15:19:38 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) said his ankle "feels a lot better," but he's not ready to say he'll be able to play in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Davis sat out in Week 3. TE Vance McDonald (knee) said he's "absolutely" confident that he'll play against the Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: The bad news for Davis owners is that their game is in the afternoon Sunday. It's not smart to roll the dice with Davis in your FantasyScore lineups. In standard leagues, if you take the chance, be prepared to have a backup tight end at your disposal that plays in those later games or on Monday night.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) was a limited participant in practice Friday, Sept. 26, and is questionable for Week 4.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 25.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) was on the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 24, stretching with his teammates. He was listed as a limited participant.

Fantasy Tip: Check back Thursday or Friday for a better idea on Davis' status. If he is able to go through a full practice by Friday, he should be a good play against Philadelphia Sunday, but his status is not yet a guarantee.

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 13:33:18 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) has been declared inactive for Week 3.

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 07:21:55 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) is doubtful to play Sunday, Sept. 21, and was on crutches until Thursday, Sept. 18. TE Derek Carrier would start in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Carrier ($3,700; 7.4% of your cap) is a basement option in FantasyScore. Use him if you need the cap space elsewhere.

49ers | Vernon Davis' status uncertain

Sat, 20 Sep 2014 07:59:32 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) could be a game-time decision for Week 3. Davis said he was encouraged with how he felt after some light running and catching drills Friday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Davis probably would be limited if he is active for the game. Davis costs $7,400 on FantasyScore this week, but owners should look to spend their money on a healthier tight end.

49ers | Vernon Davis listed as questionable

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 16:50:22 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) did not practice Friday, Sept. 19, and he is listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: At $7400, or 14.8 percent of your FantasyScore salary, Davis is much too risky to start in Week 3. He very well could be sidelined. In fact, with Vance McDonald also hurting, Derek Carrier could make the start. At $3700, or just 7.4 percent of FantasyScore salary, he is a nice sleeper if he gets the nod.

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 18:13:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle, knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has missed the last two practices and may need to sit out this week. With the team's top two tight ends injured, Derek Carrier probably would receive the start but should not be an option in any league.

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 16:38:14 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17, and he is still on crutches.

49ers | Vernon Davis has ankle bruise

Tue, 16 Sep 2014 20:48:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (ankle) has a deep bone bruise but no structural damage to his ankle, and the team is optimistic he will be able to play in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: At $7,400, Davis has the fourth-highest salary among tight ends in FantasyScore, and shelling out that much money for a player facing a strong Arizona secondary at less than 100 percent is risky.

49ers | Vernon Davis scores two TDs

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 10:31:10 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had four catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns in the team's win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 7. Davis now has 53 receiving touchdowns, which is most in the NFL since 2009, including the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: It was a good start for Davis, but don't let it fool you. Davis' fantasy value is heavily touchdown-reliant, and it'll be hard for him to keep up those ratios of catches to TDs, especially against teams with good pass rushes, as he'll often be kept in to block.

49ers | Vernon Davis shouldn't be impacted by Jimmy Graham ruling

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 12:25:40 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis' holdout for a new contract should not be impacted by Jimmy Graham being ruled as a tight end, according to a source. Davis lined up as a tight end more than a wide receiver in 2013 and has freely admitted that he is a tight end. The 49ers don't appear inclined to give Davis a new deal. He is currently the third-highest paid tight end. San Francisco veterans report to training camp July 24.

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 09:37:20 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis is indeed absent for the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 17, according to a league source. Davis is holding out for a new contract. Davis also skipped the team's voluntary organized team activities earlier this month.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' absence won't have an impact on his fantasy value in 2014, but it will allow Vance McDonald and Brent Celek to receive valuable repetitions with the first unit. Davis remains a top-tier tight end.

49ers | Vernon Davis not committing to minicamp

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 09:22:15 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis will not fully commit to attend the team's mandatory minicamp that will run from June 17-19. "If it's mandatory, I think I should be there," Davis said. "My foot could get stuck in the grass, and I may not be able to get out ... but if it's mandatory, I think I should be there." Davis is seeking a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: It just got a little trickier for the Niners to lock up Davis after they extended Colin Kaepernick for another six years, including $61 million in guarantees. Davis' situation won't affect his standing as a top-tier tight end.
