49ers | Vernon Davis won't play

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 15:29:50 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis won't play Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jim Tomsula said earlier in the week that this week's game is about seeing the younger players, and that will definitely happen at tight end. Vance McDonald is listed as second on the depth chart, and he's the only other player really worth monitoring.

49ers | SF wants to keep Vernon Davis

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 04:43:16 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis and the team may talk about a contract extension prior to Davis hitting free agency in 2016. Davis will make $4.35 million this season.

Fantasy Tip: Although Davis caught just two touchdowns a year ago, he is two years removed from a Pro Bowl outing and could be a sleeper in the offense. Right now, he projects as a TE2 at best, but keep an eye on how he looks in preseason games.

49ers | Vernon Davis ready to rebound?

Sat, 23 May 2015 19:45:54 -0700

San Fancisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis caught a pair of red-zone touchdowns from QB Colin Kaepernick during practice Thursday, May 21, and he added a 25-yard reception on a deep crossing route.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was a non-factor on offense for large stretches of last season, but he still has the athleticism to be a productive player. If he continues to enjoy a larger role in the offense, he could easily return to TE1 status in 2015, and he is worth taking a chance on if you wait until later in drafts to address the position.

49ers | Torrey Smith should free up Vernon Davis

Thu, 14 May 2015 05:17:34 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith's arrival should free up TE Vernon Davis to stretch the field, according to general manager Trent Baalke. "The one thing that really shows up is the way the field's opened up more with the speed or Torrey being able to stretch the outside," Baalke said. "And it really helps Vernon's game because now Vernon's game is (to) stretch the field a little bit, as well."

Fantasy Tip: Davis was a huge disappointment in 2014 and rates as a low-end TE1 with minimal upside.

49ers | Vernon Davis at workouts

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 04:28:26 -0700

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis is attending voluntary workouts this season after skipping them the year before, saying "I'm here this year because I want to get better."

Fantasy Tip: Davis torched many fantasy owners when he produced one of the worst seasons in his career. He will slide way down many draft boards as a result but could be a good bounce-back TE2 candidate.

49ers | Vernon Davis will return to SF

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 17:09:49 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis will return to the team next season, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Davis will make $4.95 million in the final year of his deal, but he's coming off a season in which he had just 26 catches for a measly 245 yards and two touchdowns (both in the season opener). Davis is expected to take part in the team's offseason program after skipping the mandatory minicamp last offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' exceptionally poor 2014 screwed all of his owners over royally. Expect his price to drop significantly in 2015 drafts. That means he could be a bargain as a low-end TE1 or top-tier TE2. A bounce-back season seems like it'd be in store, especially if Colin Kaepernick improves in the pocket.

49ers | Tony Sparano good news for Vernon Davis?

Thu, 22 Jan 2015 19:09:44 -0800

San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Tony Sparano tutored Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten in his first two years in the NFL, and ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez believes TE Vernon Davis could benefit from having Sparano as a position coach.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was basically a non-factor for the 49ers last season, but after piling up 850 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2013, he could be worth taking a chance on later in drafts next year in case Sparano can help Davis bounce back.

49ers | SF tight end production was awful

Thu, 22 Jan 2015 15:18:51 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had just two touchdowns in 2014, and they both came in Week 1. He also wasn't targeted at all in the red zone after the opening weekend of the regular season after catching 13 TDs in 2013. The Niners and Davis hope that the hiring of Tony Sparano as the new tight ends coach can fix that heading into 2015. San Fran tight ends combined for just 39 catches for 423 yards (10.9 yards per catch) in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably safe to say that Davis will find it difficult to be any worse next year than he was in 2014. Granted, poor QB play from Colin Kaepernick and injuries played there part, but Sparano should be a welcomed addition to the staff. However, for next year's fantasy football drafts, it's probably safe to say that Davis is now more of a fringe TE1.

49ers | Vernon Davis' spot may be in jeopardy

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 11:59:39 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis' roster spot for 2015 could be in jeopardy, because he is scheduled to make $4.95 million next season.

Fantasy Tip: Davis recorded only 245 yards and two touchdowns this season after having 850 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2013. Davis could see a small increase in value if he joins another team but probably will be a low-end No. 1 tight end no matter where he plays in 2015.

49ers | Vernon Davis a non-factor in red zone

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 18:13:55 -0800

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has not been targeted in the red zone since Week 1 of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has seen his production plummet across the board this year, and his lack of involvement in the red zone means that fantasy owners can't even hope for a touchdown to salvage a decent point total. At this point, Davis shouldn't be used at FantasyScore regardless of the opponent.
