Eric Allen, of NewYorkJets.com, reports New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez said he is confident of earning the team's starting quarterback job. Sanchez is competing with QB Kellen Clemens for the spot. "For me, I feel like I'm going to be on the field and that's what you always want to do. You don't grow up dreaming of being a backup, so I'm going to go for it," Sanchez said. "I know Kellen's going to do the same thing, and it's going to be a great competition and I'm excited to compete with him."

Rich Cimini, of The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the quarterback competition is going to be "fierce." QB Kellen Clemens continued to work with the first team Tuesday, June 9, and outperformed rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has the stronger arm, and was throwing lasers in a one-on-one drill, but he has to avoid mistakes. He threw an interception during 7-on-7 drills, which was returned for a touchdown. Ryan wants Sanchez to also improve his voice, as he wants Sanchez to be louder and more inflective with his cadence.

The Associated Press reports New York Jets QB Kellen Clemens may have his work cut out for him since the Jets drafted QB Mark Sanchez in the first round, but Clemens is still in the competition for the team's starting job. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Clemens is "clearly ahead" in terms of the system and has performed well during offseason workouts. "Things that come natural to Kellen, Sanchez has to think about," Schottenheimer said. "I'm looking forward to watching these guys compete."
