Jason La Canfora, of the Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins are still pursuing Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs and a deal may be done before or during the 2007 NFL Draft. The chances that the trade will occur are "50-50," according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The two teams have discussed different trade scenarios, but the Redskins refuse to add LB Rocky McIntosh or extra draft picks in the deal. The trade originally offered would most likely be the one that would occur. The Redskins would receive Briggs and the 31st overall pick, while the Bears would receive the sixth overall pick. If the trade occurs, the Redskins would look to draft University of Texas CB Aaron Ross, University of Texas S Michael Griffin or University of Oklahoma LB Rufus Alexander.

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals may take an outside linebacker either in the first or second round. Possibilities include Florida State LB Lawrence Timmons, Penn State LB Paul Posluszny and University of Miami (Fla.) Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Oklahoma LB Rufus Alexander measured a height of 6-foot 1/4 and a weight of 232 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.73 seconds and 4.69 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.32 seconds and completed 26 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. He stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Combine.

Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports at the NFL Combine, the New York Giants fell in love with the overall group of linebackers and came away convinced that there are four or five worthy of a first-round selection. They need two outside linebackers and are almost certain to use the 20th overall pick at that position. A few that might be considered are Penn State LB Paul Posluszny, Florida State LB Lawrence Timmons, and Oklahoma LB Rufus Alexander. Whomever they draft will have an opportunity to walk right into the NFL and start.

During his interview, Alexander was asked why a Cover-2 scheme would work well for him. Alexander said, "Because it's more for your speedier guy on the outside, a guy who can make plays in space, make tackles on receivers and guys coming out of the backfield."
