John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans have waived injured DE Stanley McClover (knee), FS Troy Nolan (wrist) and FB Boomer Grigsby (ankle). McClover was placed on Injured Reserve, Nolan is expected to placed on Injured Reserve, while Grigsby could be placed on Injured Reserve.

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans DL Stanley McClover (knee) suffered a torn meniscus during the team's Week 1 game. He will undergo surgery to repair the tear. The Texans are not sure if McClover will return this season.

The Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers have released QB Brett Basanez, RB DeCori Birmingham, S Joe Fields, FB Troy Fleming, WR Chris Hannon, DT Nick Hayden, OG Evan Mathis, DE Stanley McClover, OG Reuben Riley, OT Geoffrey Schwartz, LB Tim Shaw, CB Darren Toney, TE Chad Upshaw and DL Stephen Williams from the team. The team also terminated the contracts of OG Milford Brown, CB Ricardo Colclough, OG Toniu Fonoti, S Terrence Holt, WR Samie Parker, WR Travis Taylor and RB LaBrandon Toefield.

Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the potential move of Carolina Panthers DL Julius Peppers to right defensive end may have to do with the rest of the roster more than Peppers' dismal 2007 campaign. After the retirement of DL Mike Rucker, the team does not have another legitimate pass rusher. The Panthers are hoping DL Charles Johnson, DL Stanley McClover or DL Tyler Brayton can step up and claim a starting job and the winner of that battle might have better luck going against right tackles.

The Associated Press reports the Carolina Panthers have three defensive ends. They are DL Charles Johnson, DL Stanley McClover and DL Tyler Brayton. Johnson played in three games last season. McClover had 12 tackles in 11 games and Brayton had six sacks in five seasons with the Oakland Raiders.
