Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:40:36 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) spoke to the media recently, shedding light on his Lisfranc foot injury. Holmes said his foot injury was diagnosed as a Grade 4 injury (the most serious kind), meaning a muscle tear and joint separation in his mid-foot. He had screws and a plate removed in a March surgical procedure, but he will have two screws in the foot permanently. Holmes said his "target date" is the first day of training camp. Fantasy Tip: Holmes has yet to start running and cutting, and he is a huge question mark. It's even more worrisome since Stephen Hill, likely the leading candidate to start opposite Holmes, is dealing with more drop problems during offseason practices. Holmes might be a tremendous late-round pick-up for fantasy owners on draft day, and if he flames out or underproduces, no harm and no foul.
Sun, 16 Jun 2013 08:23:33 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) indicated he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp. Holmes may not be ready for camp because he has not started running or cutting yet. Fantasy Tip: It appears Holmes' status for training camp and the start of the regular season could be in question because of the foot injury he suffered last season. Holmes will be the team's No. 1 wide receiver when he is healthy, but the team's quarterback situation hurts his value. He should be considered a No. 4 fantasy receiver at this point.
Thu, 13 Jun 2013 05:56:23 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc) is still not running or cutting in his rehab. He is able to ride a stationary bike. Fantasy Tip: It's starting to look like Week 1 may be an unreasonable expectation.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 22:47:07 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes said he believes that QB Mark Sanchez will be the team's starter on Day 1, even though Sanchez is involved in a competition with rookie QB Geno Smith. "Coaches brought him back and they kept him on this team for a reason. He's a great leader and he's got great potential and he's excited about this season upcoming, and so am I." Holmes indicated that he restructured his deal to remain with the Jets because of Sanchez. "I think everybody believes in him," Holmes said "He wouldn't be here if anybody didn't believe in him. He's still wearing the same No. 6 jersey that he wore since the day he got drafted here, and I think the organization and even the team love him and we're going to continue supporting him." Fantasy Tip: Of course, Sanchez will need more than Holmes' belief in him in order to fend off Smith, but it doesn't hurt. Still, Sanchez doesn't figure to be more than a QB3, likely undraftable in 12-team leagues with 16-man rosters.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 19:59:08 -0700 New York Jets WR Stephen Hill struggled with drops during practice Wednesday, June 12, at minicamp. He dropped a pass in the end zone in a 7-on-7 drill, and had another blatant drop during a team drill. WR Santonio Holmes, who is mentoring the second-year receiver, expressed frustration about Hill in a news conference.
Wed, 12 Jun 2013 16:35:31 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (foot) offered "no comment" on whether he will be ready for Week 1. He said rehab has been "great" but that he's limited in what he can do. Fantasy Tip: With the QB play that's expected to come from this team, Holmes likely won't perform as anything more than a bottom-end WR3 anyway, but if he tumbles down draft boards, he could net a smidge of profit. It looks like it'll be a painful season physically and thanks to his team, though.
Wed, 05 Jun 2013 12:16:46 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said there is a chance that WR Santonio Holmes (foot) could start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Fantasy Tip: Owners interested in Holmes should monitor the situation over the next few weeks, but the team likely is being cautious with Holmes to make sure he is ready for the start of the season. Holmes probably should be seen as a No. 4 wide receiver entering drafts because of the team's uncertain quarterback situation and the lack of other options on offense.
Wed, 22 May 2013 13:09:35 -0700 New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he does not believe that WR Santonio Holmes (foot) will be able to participate in the team's minicamp in June. Fantasy Tip: Holmes can take a cautious approach with his foot injury at this point since the regular season is a few months away. Holmes probably should be seen as a No. 4 wide receiver entering drafts because of the team's uncertain quarterback situation and the lack of other options on offense.
Wed, 08 May 2013 16:15:36 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes indicated he believes QB Mark Sanchez should be the team's starting quarterback at this point. "Right now, it's Sanchez, and that's who we're going with, and we're going to continue on this road until time permits," Holmes said.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 13:13:12 -0700 New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes likely will be released next offseason because he is scheduled to count $10.75 million against the salary cut in 2014. He took a $3 million pay cut in order to remain with the team for the 2013 season.
