Steelers | DeAngelo Williams unsure of workload

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 11:31:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams isn't sure how often he'll be used in training camp or in the first few games of the season yet. RB Le'Veon Bell's fate is tied to his three-game suspension that lies in limbo. Williams said he'll be ready for whatever he's asked to do.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is expected to be the Steelers' starting running back for at least the first game of the season. Whatever happens after that is yet to be decided. He could be a useful handcuff selection for those who draft Bell.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams busy as backup

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 17:39:07 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams said he "absolutely" received enough work as the backup during the first day of training camp Sunday, July 26, and he expects to be ready to start Week 1 if RB Le'Veon Bell is suspended.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is still waiting to appeal his suspension, but Williams will likely have to start for at least a couple of games. He will have short-term value at FantasyScore while Bell is sidelined, and in seasonal leagues, Bell owners should try to grab Williams as an insurance policy.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams being challenged

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 17:11:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams is not receiving any first-team reps despite RB Le'Veon Bell facing a three-game suspension, head coach Mike Tomlin said. Tomlin also said he is challenging Williams in ways that are uncomfortable for a 10-year veteran.

Fantasy Tip: It seems pretty clear that Williams is only going to have a worthwhile role in the offense while Bell is suspended or if he misses time for another reason. If you draft Bell, consider adding Williams as an insurance policy.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams slims down

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 12:18:47 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams has lost some weight this offseason since head coach Mike Tomlin asked Williams to report to training camp at 220 pounds or less. Williams said he is currently at the target weight after working with a nutritionist this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will fill in as the starter while Le'Veon Bell serves his suspension. Williams could be a short-term option for fantasy owners since he will see limited playing time after Bell returns.

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 14:43:42 -0700

Free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) has signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be the No. 2 running back behind Le'Veon Bell but could have a big role early in the season since Bell is facing a suspension. Owners should see Williams as an option in the later rounds of drafts next season.

Steelers | Pittsburgh to add DeAngelo Williams

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 13:16:25 -0700

Free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) will sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will play behind Le'Veon Bell but could receive some starts early in the season if Bell is suspended. Williams was limited by injuries this past season and probably should only be considered as a later-round option in drafts next season.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams meeting with PIT

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 09:07:29 -0700

Free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) is scheduled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday, March 13, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Williams was limited to only six games this past season because of injuries and posted only 219 rushing yards and zero touchdowns. Williams likely would be the primary backup in Pittsburgh if he signs but could receive a few starts if Le'Veon Bell is suspended for his arrest. Williams probably would be an option in later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams officially cut

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 14:35:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams was officially released Tuesday, March 10.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is on the wrong side of 30 and has plenty of injury concerns, so he won't sign with a team that will give him a lead-back role. Expect Williams to be nothing more than a late-round flier in fantasy football drafts this fall to round out your running back depth. Stay tuned on where he signs.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams not upset with release

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 09:08:28 -0800

Free-agent RB DeAngelo Williams (Panthers) said he was not upset when the Carolina Panthers told him last week that he'd be released. Williams told Charlotte's WBTV that DE Greg Hardy was the only member of the organization to attend his mother's funeral in Arkansas last May. The Panthers are saying that Williams has not officially been released. The team can save $2 million under the salary cap by designating him a post-June 1 cut. Williams said owner Jerry Richardson's failure to reach out to Williams after his mother's death was "extremely disappointing."

Fantasy Tip: While the Williams release technically isn't official now, it's only a matter of time at this point. At 32 years old and with plenty of injury questions, it's hard to see many teams jumping at the chance to sign him. Wherever he lands, we don't see him being anything more than running back depth for your fantasy squad. Jonathan Stewart should take over as the main back in Carolina after finishing off 2014 with an impressive run.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams not released

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 13:18:59 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams has not been released and is not expected to be released Monday, Feb. 23. It was previously reported that Williams had been released.

Fantasy Tip: Williams could very well still get the boot and Jonathan Stewart should still take over as the main running back in Carolina. Until then, Williams should not be considered more than a flex play while Stewart has RB2 potential.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams officially cut

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 12:40:49 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams has been released.

Fantasy Tip: Jonathan Stewart takes the reins as the starting running back in Carolina. Consider him an RB2 option as long as he stays healthy this offseason. Williams could very well be signed by another team, but he's very much over the hill at almost 32 years old.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams could be gone

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 12:12:58 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams may be on his way out of Carolina. Williams, who turns 32 in two months, played in just six games last season while RB Jonathan Stewart found new life. Cutting Williams would also save the Panthers $2 million in salary cap space.

Fantasy Tip: It would make sense for Carolina and Williams to cut ties at this point in Williams' career. Williams could still be signed by another team if he is released, but probably wouldn't hold much fantasy value.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams officially active

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 12:08:54 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams is active for the wild-card playoff game Saturday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Jonathan Stewart will start for the Panthers again, so it's still best to keep Williams out of your FantasyScore lineups today.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams probable

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 12:53:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 2, and is probable for the team's wild-card playoff.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will continue to run behind Johnathan Stewart in the wild-card round. It is tough to imagine Williams getting enough work to justify a roster spot on him in FantasyScore contests this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart to remain lead back

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 11:08:04 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is expected to start and see most of the carries over RB DeAngelo Williams in the team's Wild Card game against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday, Jan. 3. Stewart has the second most rushing yards (486) in the league in the last five games, and Williams was a liability in the passing game with an injured right hand. However, Williams is "ready to roll" this week, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart ($5,300; 10.6% of cap) will continue to see the lion's share of the workload, but Williams' ($3,000) return has to concern you, at least a little. Arizona's run defense has been vulnerable of late to bruising backs unlike Stewart. Consider Stewart a candidate to disappoint in the first round of the playoffs.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams fully practices

Thu, 01 Jan 2015 15:28:10 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) practiced fully Thursday, Jan. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,000) may not get much playing time behind Jonathan Stewart this weekend and isn't worth starter consideration on FantasyScore even at such a cheap price.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams a full go

Wed, 31 Dec 2014 12:46:56 -0800

Tue, 30 Dec 2014 11:38:33 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) participated in practice Tuesday, Dec. 30. The extent of his participation was undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Williams should still play behind Jonathan Stewart against the Arizona Cardinals this week and is best left out of FantasyScore lineups, even at $3,000.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams expected to play

Mon, 29 Dec 2014 10:07:27 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is expected to be able to play in the Wild Card playoff game, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Williams may be able to play this week but would be behind Jonathan Stewart on the depth chart and could see limited touches. Williams probably is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams scratched

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 12:41:21 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is apparently a healthy scratch after being listed as a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 27, and designated as probable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: DAW was not worthy of fantasy consideration, but his absence solidifies Jonathan Stewart's role as the top dog with an excellent matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart the starter in Carolina

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 14:20:25 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will be the team's starting running back in Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons despite RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) being listed as probable for the game. Stewart has ran for 437 yards in the last four games with Williams out, which is more than any other running back in the NFL in that span. "I'm not going to sit here and divulge what my plan is with my players," head coach Ron Rivera said. "I don't want to get up here and tell you exactly what we're going to do with our players. Why do I want to give the opponent any insight into what we're going to do?" There are no guarantees that Williams will play, since there are concerns about his ability to block with his hand injury.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should be a solid play at FantasyScore against the Falcons, even if Williams is active in the game. The Falcons have routinely been beaten up by opposing rushers all year. Ignore Williams in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams a full go

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 10:42:13 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) fully practiced Friday, Dec. 26, and is probable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Williams looks like he is good to go for Week 17, but he should not be counted on since Jonathan Stewart has been playing well and will likely get a lot of the work.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams fully practices

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 11:55:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Williams appears to be on track to play in Week 17, but likely will not have a big role since Jonathan Stewart has been playing well in his absence. Williams ($5,555) probably should be avoided by fantasy owners this week.

Panthers | Starting RB still not named for Carolina

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 11:38:44 -0800

Carolina Panthers RBs Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams still don't know who will start this week. Head coach Ron Rivera said he's reluctant to name a starter at this point and will cross that bridge when he gets to it.

Fantasy Tip: Logic says that Stewart ($5,555) will maintain his starter status considering his recent success. Whoever does start will have a terrific matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, who have allowed the most fantasy points to running backs this year.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams practicing

Tue, 23 Dec 2014 11:12:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) was taking first-team snaps at practice Tuesday, Dec. 23, with RB Jonathan Stewart taking the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($5,555) could very well return this weekend to face the Atlanta Falcons in a winner-take-all contest for the NFC South division. A Williams return would lower the FantasyScore value of Jonathan Stewart ($5,555), who has run well in recent weeks as the main back. Stewart is clearly the better option here, but temper your expectations if Williams returns.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams won't play

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 09:51:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is questionable for Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns, but he will not play in the game, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Williams could be an emergency back this week.

Fantasy Tip: Williams should be avoided at FantasyScore once again. This is good news for Jonathan Stewart ($5,000) yet again. Stewart has looked very good the last couple of weeks and is another solid FantasyScore option against the Browns.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to wear cast

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 12:56:04 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) will be fitted cast that he can play with on his injured hand. Williams still has not caught a pass with the injured hand and pass protection could be a problem for him.

Fantasy Tip: Williams' status for Week 16 is uncertain at this point, and he probably would be able to handle a normal workload if he is active. Owners probably should avoid using Williams this week.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams limited

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 12:06:35 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is still dealing with his hand injury, so he could be limited if he is active for the game. Williams only costs $3,000 on FantasyScore, but owners should be able to find better options to use.

Panthers | Limited practice for DeAngelo Williams

Wed, 17 Dec 2014 13:12:55 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) was limited at practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,000) has missed the last two games, and Jonathan Stewart ($5,000) has looked great in his absence. If Williams returns, it could cut into Stewart's workload against the Cleveland Browns, who have allowed an average of 22.20 fantasy points to runners in the last four weeks. Stewart should be flex-worthy, at least.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams inactive

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 09:23:52 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 15 game.

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 09:38:09 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is doubtful for the team's Week 15 game, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: It is unlikely that Williams will be able to play in this week's game. He should be avoided in FantasyScore contests. Jonathan Stewart is an excellent option at $5,000 this week. He should be considered for your roster.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams unlikely to play

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 12:05:38 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) probably will not be able to play in Week 15, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Williams' hand likely is not healed enough to be ready to play. Jonathan Stewart likely will be the starting running back and could be an attractive option on FantasyScore at $5,000.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams does some drills

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 11:39:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: It does not look like Williams will be able to play in Week 15 even though he has been taken part in some drills during practice. Jonathan Stewart likely would receive most of the work if Williams is out and could be a solid option on FantasyScore at $5,000.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams not practicing

Wed, 10 Dec 2014 12:58:01 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is sitting out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,200) is likely to be questionable against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so he's not a very good option at FantasyScore at all. If he misses another game, Jonathan Stewart ($5,000) should be another fine buy with an increased workload.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams will return to mix

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 13:12:22 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) will be in the mix in the backfield when he returns from a broken bone in his right hand, but head coach Ron Rivera would not say if he would start over RB Jonathan Stewart, who has been strong in Williams' absence. "My preference. That's the only reason," Rivera said. "DeAngelo is a part of who we are. We'll see. We'll see how it is. It will be a day-by-day process with him. As the hand gets stronger and heals up, we'll go forward." The offensive line was solid in the Week 14 win over the New Orleans Saints, and they helped Stewart run for 155 yards. QB Cam Newton also ran for 83 yards on the ground, while RB Mike Tolbert had 62 total yards and RB Fozzy Whittaker had 31 total yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will cost $3,200 heading into Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his iffy status should steer you away from him. Stewart ($5,000) should remain intriguing for at least another week with this juicy matchup against the Bucs.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams day-to-day

Mon, 08 Dec 2014 09:55:15 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is considered day-to-day because of his hand injury, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor his practice participation during the week to have a better idea of his status for Week 15. Jonathan Stewart played well in Week 14 and could receive a majority of the carries when Williams returns to the lineup. Owners on FantasyScore probably should avoid using Williams this week.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams ruled out in Week 14

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 13:48:35 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) missed practice for the third straight day Friday, Dec. 5, and has been ruled out for Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Now that we know Williams won't play against the Saints, you should look to get Jonathan Stewart ($4,900) in your FantasyScore lineups as a great value play against a New Orleans defense that struggles mightily to slow down opposing running backs.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams out again Thursday

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 13:27:28 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: A fractured finger is the latest ailment to sideline Williams, and although he's listed as day-to-day, it doesn't look promising for him in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints. Stay away from him at FantasyScore. Jonathan Stewart ($4,900) looks ripe for the taking, though, as the Saints haven't been good against the run all year long.

Panthers | No practice for DeAngelo Williams

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 10:29:15 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($3,200) probably faces uphill odds to play this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. It's a shame, since the Saints present Carolina runners with a juicy matchup at FantasyScore. That said, we like Jonathan Stewart ($4,900), who had a big game in Week 13, as a nice value play against the Saints.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams to see specialist?

Tue, 02 Dec 2014 14:43:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) could see a hand specialist this week, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Williams fractured his hand in Week 13 but could still play in Week 14 if the swelling in his hand goes down.

Fantasy Tip: If Williams doesn't play, Jonathan Stewart would once again get the start. Whoever starts will have a nice matchup versus the New Orleans Saints, who allow 22.8 fantasy points per game to running backs. While Stewart hasn't done anything special this year, he is a cheaper FantasyScore option at $4,900.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams day-to-day

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 10:56:57 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (finger) is considered day-to-day because of a fractured bone in his middle finger, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera said Williams could play in Week 14 if the swelling in the finger goes down.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to watch his practice participation during the week to have a better idea of his status for Week 14. Owners may want to avoid using Williams even if he is active for the game because he has not been very productive this season.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams may have broken hand

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 10:12:58 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (hand) may have a broken hand and could meet with a specialist to have his hand examined, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation to see if Williams will have to miss time with his hand injury. Jonathan Stewart likely would receive a majority of the carries if Williams misses some games, but owners likely would have better options to use at the position.

Panthers | DeAngelo Williams will play

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 12:44:06 -0800

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and is probable for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Even with a nice price of $3,700 in FantasyScore, Williams should probably be avoided this week since he may not be at full strength. Jonathan Stewart may end up getting more work as the game goes on, and should be considered for your roster.
