Steelers | DeAngelo Williams could practice soon

Tue, 06 Dec 2016 09:26:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) may be able to return to practice this week, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has been out since undergoing knee surgery after Week 9. The 33-year-old doesn't hold much fantasy value at the moment with Le'Veon Bell healthy and hogging all the touches out of the backfield, but he is one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy football and should be owned by forward-thinking Bell owners.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams could return Week 13

Tue, 29 Nov 2016 09:56:39 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) is "perking up" and appears to be on track to return Week 13 against the New York Giants after undergoing minor knee surgery about three weeks ago, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Le'Veon Bell has operated as the clear featured back in Pittsburgh since his return from suspension and there is little reason to believe that will change barring injury. However, Williams is one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy football, making him a smart stash for any owner.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams has surgery

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 05:20:32 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) had surgery to trim the meniscus in his knee, and he's expected to miss at least this week. The two-week timetable makes it possible for him to return in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has been a non-factor since Le'Veon Bell returned from suspension, and he's merely a handcuff to him in fantasy.

Steelers | Trio of Steelers out in Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:25:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Markus Wheaton (shoulder), Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) have been ruled out for the team's Week 10 game Sunday, Nov. 13, against the Dallas Cowboys. All three sat out practice Friday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The absence of Wheaton and Bey allows the likes of Sammie Coates, Eli Rogers and Jesse James to remain relevant in deeper fantasy leagues. Ladarius Green could also benefit if he makes his return this weekend. Meanwhile, with Williams out, Fitzgerald Toussaint will fill in as the backup, but is a longshot to produce anything of note behind Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams has surgery

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 15:56:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) underwent surgery on his injured knee Thursday, Nov. 10. The operation could sideline him for two to three weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It will be all Le'Veon Bell in Pittsburgh's backfield, as if it wasn't anyway. Bell is one of the few matchup proof running backs in the NFL and an every-week starter. Fitzgerald Toussaint should now be the primary backup, but he won't see enough playing time to gain fantasy relevance.

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 14:11:57 -0800

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams to be evaluated

Tue, 08 Nov 2016 12:04:13 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) will have his injured knee evaluated. His status for Week 10 is unclear at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has done nothing since handing the running back reins back to Le'Veon Bell. He has managed just 39 rushing yards the last five weeks and can be dropped at least by those who don't own Bell.

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 18:43:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 3, a day after he was listed as a limited participant.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good that we'll see Williams play since Thursday is usually the most important practice of the week. Avoid him, as Le'Veon Bell is in there and getting the lion's share of the work anyway.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams will not play Week 7

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 11:29:30 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) has been ruled out Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Williams did not practice all week. While Fitzgerald Toussaint moves up a spot on the depth chart for now, Williams' status this week all but locks Le'Veon Bell into a massive workload for an offense that was already missing Ben Roethlisberger.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams sidelined Wednesday

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 14:24:21 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has received only eight carries over the last three games and probably will continue to see limited playing time as long as Le'Veon Bell is healthy. Williams should still be owned in most leagues as a Bell handcuff but should not be in starting lineups.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams back at practice

Thu, 13 Oct 2016 18:49:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) returned to practice Thursday, Oct. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Williams isn't worth starting as long as Le'Veon Bell is healthy and staying out of trouble, but he is a must-own handcuff for Bell owners.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams dealing with knee injury

Tue, 11 Oct 2016 09:42:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) was among the injured players head coach Mike Tomlin discussed with the media Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Williams only received one carry against the New York Jets in Week 5, so this might help to explain that. Unfortunately, owners won't know anymore until the Steelers return to practice Wednesday, but his status is much less important in fantasy now than it would have been about two weeks ago. Given his high-profile status as perhaps the best handcuff in fantasy, he's obviously well worth holding in the event of another injury or suspension to Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams receives day off

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 14:13:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be fine for Week 5 and will have a limited role with Le'Veon Bell back in the lineup. He could be a flex option in some leagues but he is no longer a must-start option.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 22, after being given a day off Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Williams has 237 rushing yards and 10 catches through two games, and he should be considered a RB1 in Week 3 in what will likely be his final start before Le'Veon Bell returns.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Williams will be fine for the team's Week 3 game and will be receiving his last start before Le'Veon Bell returns. Williams has been one of the best running backs through the first two weeks of the season and should be a starter in all fantasy leagues.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams does it again

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 22:28:40 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams carried 32 times for 94 yards in the Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he added four receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown on five targets.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is filling in admirably for the suspended Le'Veon Bell, who is out at least one more week. Williams remains a low-end RB1 in all fantasy formats the way he is performing.

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 17:37:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) returned to practice Thursday, Sept. 15, after receiving a rest day.

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 14:19:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is receiving a rest day and should see most of the carries in Week 2 after rushing for 143 yards in the opener. He should be a starting option in all leagues even though he will be facing a tough Cincinnati Bengals defense.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams slices up 'Skins

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 19:54:33 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams carried 26 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 1 game against the Washington Redskins and he also racked up six receptions for 28 yards.

Fantasy Tip: D-Will, subbing for the suspended Le'Veon Bell, had a huge game and is a viable RB2 in all fantasy formats until Bell returns in Week 4. Don't drop Williams, though, once Bell is back, as he should still have some kind of role in the offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, RB DeAngelo Williams and WR Antonio Brown won't play in the second preseason game Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Bell, Brown and Big Ben are all amidst the first pack in fantasy at their respective positions. D-Will is an RB3 as he'll take a backseat when Bell returns from his suspension.

Steelers | Pittsburgh to sit several players

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 11:15:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, RB DeAngelo Williams, WR Antonio Brown and C Maurkice Pouncey will not play in the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Friday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: All of the players will be rested and should play in the next few preseason games. Brown likely will be one of the first players selected in drafts, while Bell probably will be a No. 1 running back once he returns from his suspension. Roethlisberger should also be a No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues. Williams will have increased value over the first month of the season with Bell out but should also be a flex option when Bell returns.

Steelers | Little chance Le'Veon Bell wins appeal

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 19:03:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell has vowed not to miss any games due to suspension for reportedly missing several drug tests, but no sources with knowledge of the situation believe he has a strong chance to win the appeal. As such, RB DeAngelo Williams would be in line to carry the load until Bell returns.

Fantasy Tip: He is still worth drafting as an RB1, but you'll obviously either need to draft DeAngelo Williams early or have plenty of depth on hand to fill the void in the first four games if his suspension is indeed upheld. Bell is a top-notch option when he is on the field.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams feeling great

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 16:43:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) said he has recovered from the foot injury he suffered last season and is in the best shape he has been in his life.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is coming off a terrific 2015 season and should receive decent playing time as a No. 2 running back this season. He should be selected in the middle to late rounds of most fantasy drafts.

Steelers | Pittsburgh may have two RBs in backfield

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 14:55:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell said he believes there will be times that he and RB DeAngelo Williams will be on the field at the same time. "There are definitely going to be packages where me and 'D-Lo' are going to be out there at the same time," Bell said. "I'm ready for that."

Fantasy Tip: Bell will receive most of the work at running back in 2016 but Williams should see decent playing time because of his solid play last season. Bell probably would be more of a receiver if both are on the field at the game time, which would help his fantasy value. Bell should be selected in the first round, while Williams could be a middle- to late-round option in drafts.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams will be used

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 09:30:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams will be used by offensive coordinator Todd Haley in 2016 despite the return of RB Le'Veon Bell from injury. "I think the difference between last year and this year is that we got a big body of work from DeAngelo last year," said Haley. "We got to see him do a lot of things, and obviously he did a very good job for us. Knowing a lot more about him will maybe help give Le'Veon more rest when he needs it, although knowing Le'Veon he never wants to come off."

Fantasy Tip: Williams proved very valuable as a waiver-wire darling last year after Bell went down with injury, so he's surely capable of being productive with fewer carries, too. However, it remains to be seen how much he'll be used, and as long as Bell is healthy, Williams' fantasy value remains low.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams cleared

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 09:42:44 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) has been fully cleared for workouts.

Fantasy Tip: With Le'Veon Bell's (knee) status murky, Williams could open the season with enhanced value again. However, he's more of an RB4 or a handcuff to Bell that doesn't figure to see a big chunk of work when Bell is healthy.

Steelers | No surgery for DeAngelo Williams

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 12:54:56 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) will not need surgery on his injured foot this offseason, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Le'Veon Bell should be healthy and ready to go this offseason, too, which means Williams would once again assume his backup role. He filled in very nicely for Bell this season, but he won't receive a lot of playing time in 2016 if Bell can stay healthy.

Steelers | DeAngelo Williams ruled out

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:44:22 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) has been ruled out for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Williams was never really expected to play this weekend. Fitzgerald Toussaint ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) and Jordan Todman ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) were both pretty productive in splitting the backfield duties in the wild-card round, but they face a much stiffer test this weekend. With a banged up Big Ben under center, both running backs are a tougher sell on FantasyScore.
