The Sports Newtwork reports Major League Baseball suspended free-agent OF Cedrick Brooks 50 games for violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Brooks tested positive for a drug of abuse. The Colorado Rockies released Brooks in March, so if Brooks signs with any major league organization, his suspension will take effect immediately.

Tracy Ringolsby, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Colorado Rockies acquired OF Cedrick Brooks from the Washington Nationals as the player to be named later in last summer's trade of OF Preston Wilson.
