The 78 yards was easily a season best, as he had managed just 170 yards on the ground entering play. It was also his first rushing TD since Dec. 26, 2010, in Week 16 last season.
Sun, 25 Sep 2011 20:40:10 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch carried 19 times for 73 yards in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. RBs Leon Washington had three carries for 29 yards, while Justin Forsett had no gain on one rush.

Fri, 19 Aug 2011 11:23:55 -0700 The Seattle Seahawks are giving RB Leon Washington a healthy dose of carries in the preseason to see how he fits into their running game this year. RB Marshawn Lynch is expected to be the team's workhorse at tailback, but they want to do their best in the preseason to see how Washington fits in. Washington will once again have a big role on special teams this year. "We're just going to continue to play him back into his playing form. We love him. We love what he does, but think he just needs reps in this zone scheme that we're running and so he can show us where he's special and unique in our stuff. It's just going to be a matter of time," head coach Pete Carroll said. How his role will impact that of backup RB Justin Forsett has to be determined. Carroll noted the team has total confidence in Forsett.

Tue, 01 Mar 2011 10:41:39 -0800 The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with RB Leon Washington on a new four-year contract worth $12.5 million, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal could be worth as much as $16 million with escalators.

Fri, 14 Jan 2011 08:26:22 -0800 The Chicago Bears are undecided about kicking to Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington in their playoff matchup, according to Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has said he will kick to Bears WR Devin Hester. "It's going to be a challenge. We've got to decide if we want to kick to him," Bears special teams coach Dave Toub said. "The tables are turned this week." Washington had three kickoff returns for 75 yards in the first meeting between the teams, including a 42-yarder.
Tue, 23 Nov 2010 21:12:06 -0800 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington replaced a benched RB Marshawn Lynch in the third quarter of Week 11 against the New Orleans Saints, according to The Olympian. However, head coach Pete Carroll said the benching had more to do with getting Washington on the field offensively, and that it's not an indication of a change in the team's running back rotation moving forward.
Tue, 23 Nov 2010 20:59:21 -0800 Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch was benched early in the second half of Week 11 against the New Orleans Saints after fumbles on two consecutive drives to open the third quarter, according to The Olympian. Lynch also had a pair of drops. "I've already talked to him, and he just feels horrible about it," head coach Pete Carroll added. "Both of (the fumbles) were kind of in transition situations where he got vulnerable." RB Leon Washington finished the game in Lynch's absence.
Sun, 26 Sep 2010 18:17:56 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington returned kickoffs 99 yards and 101 yards for touchdowns in Week 3, reports The Associated Press. He is the 10th player in NFL history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Thu, 16 Sep 2010 16:03:41 -0700 The Seattle Seahawks did not have much of a running game during Week 1, managing just 77 yards on the ground, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. The majority of that came after the game was in hand late, as the Seahawks had just 10 yards rushing five minutes into the second half. RB Leon Washington said it is tough to put the blame on one specific area, saying sometimes the backs have missed their reads, other the offensive line, receivers and tight ends haven't done their job the best they could. He noted they have to collectively do their jobs in order for the team to have a good running game.
Sun, 12 Sep 2010 20:16:42 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RBs Justin Forsett, Julius Jones and Leon Washington all were in the mix at tailback during a Week 1 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Forsett led the way with 43 yards rushing on seven carries; he also caught three passes for 17 yards. Jones had a team-high eight carries, while rushing for 18 yards. Wed, 08 Sep 2010 11:05:31 -0700 Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, during an interview on SIRIUS NFL Radio, said RB Justin Forsett is a very versatile, elusive running back and a good blocker. However, just because Forsett is starting Week 1 doesn't mean the competition at running back is over. Carroll said RBs Leon Washington and Julius Jones remain in a competition with Forsett for playing time. "I've always felt comfortable rotating guys," Carroll said. He said he plans to have the backs continue to rotate until someone gives him a reason to just stick with one back.
Mon, 06 Sep 2010 20:15:32 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett was named the Week 1 starter by head coach Pete Carroll, reports Greg Johns, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. However, Carroll said this decision only applied to the coming game, and he didn't guarantee that Forsett would see more carries than fellow backs Leon Washington and Julius Jones. "This is a competition that is still open. This is not set in stone," Carroll said. "Somebody has to go out first and I want Justin to go out first." Fantasy Tip: Seattle faces the San Francisco 49ers in the opener; it isn't an enticing matchup for opposing backs. Those that have upcoming fantasy football drafts shouldn't bump Forsett up their boards too much; as Carroll said, this remains a competition. Forsett has the biggest upside of the group, though, and can post No. 2 running back numbers in point-per-reception formats. Drafting him as a middle-rounds, No. 3 option under that scoring system presents a better value. He isn't as reliable in non-PPR setups. Washington remains a late-round flier that's also more valuable in leagues that count catches. Consider Jones an uninspiring depth option until he shows more life.
Fri, 03 Sep 2010 23:21:22 -0700 The Seattle Seahawks running game remains a huge question mark entering the regular season, reports Greg Johns, of The Seattle Post-Intelligencer. RB Leon Washington (leg) was held out of the team's preseason finale, while RB Julius Jones was given the starting nod. Jones had six carries for 18 yards and didn't show any sort of burst, but the offensive line didn't open many holes for him, either. RB Justin Forsett rushed for 31 yards on six carries, but he was running behind the starting offensive line and going against reserve defenders at that point.
Thu, 02 Sep 2010 20:27:23 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett rushed six times for 31 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards during the team's preseason finale. RB Julius Jones had six carries for 18 yards, while RB Leon Washington did not see any touches.
Wed, 01 Sep 2010 08:50:50 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington will be used as a kick returner in the team's final preseason game and would be the primary returner if the season started today, reports Eric Williams, of The Tacoma News Tribune.
Tue, 31 Aug 2010 04:56:18 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RBs Justin Forsett, Leon Washington and Julius Jones remain in competition for the team's starting running back job, according to CBSSports.com. Head coach Pete Carroll is not concerned that there remains no clear-cut favorite at this point. "I'm not really worried about that. I want them to be hungry," Carroll said.
Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:22:41 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) will start the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 28, against the Minnesota Vikings, reports Gregg Bell, of The Associated Press. Washington is ahead of most estimates on his recovery, and he is leading the race to be the team's starting running back this season.
Thu, 26 Aug 2010 12:21:30 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) looked explosive while running with the first-string offense Wednesday, Aug. 25, reports Eric D. Sat, 21 Aug 2010 11:52:02 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) said he is comfortable with the team's zone blocking scheme because 70 percent of the New York Jets' rushing yards last season came from zone blocking schemes, reports Yahoo! Sports' Doug Farrar. "Before the 2009 season, [Jets offensive line] coach [Bill Callahan] sat down with [Seahawks offensive line coach Alex Gibbs] and learned the zone-running scheme that we implemented last year, and that's how we led the league in rushing, with zone and power. So, I'm used to running the zone scheme. It really suits our backs, because we attack the line at different angles. It will be fun to see the things I learned in New York carry over to here," Washington said.
Sat, 21 Aug 2010 11:42:00 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) said he is 100 percent medically and is feeling better every time he gets onto the field, reports Doug Farrar, of Yahoo! Fri, 20 Aug 2010 22:31:39 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett has shown the most frequent flashes during training camp, reports Clare Farnsworth, of Seahawks.com. Williams, of The Olympian. "We're really excited about Leon playing this week. And he's had terrific preparation for it. He's been banged around plenty of times here, been knocked off his feet and has been tackled plenty of times here. He's ready to go at this point, so we'll see where he is," head coach Pete Carroll said.
Thu, 12 Aug 2010 22:49:07 -0700 The Seattle Seahawks signed RB Adrian N. Peterson because they are a little thin at running back with Leon Washington (leg) returning from a broken leg and Louis Rankin (hamstring) being slowed with a hamstring injury, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times.
Sun, 08 Aug 2010 07:38:44 -0700 Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington (leg) practiced for the second consecutive day without restrictions Saturday, Aug. 7, reports Danny O'Neil, of The Seattle Times. He did not feel any pain. Washington said he feels like he is about 95 percent healthy, and while he said it feels good he wasn't ready to say he is back to normal yet.

Tue, 22 Jun 2010 11:24:24 -0700 Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said RB Leon Washington (leg) will be ready for the start of training camp, but the team will be careful with Washington during the early days of camp, reports The Associated Press.

Sat, 24 Apr 2010 06:41:29 -0700 The New York Jets have traded RB Leon Washington and a seventh-round draft choice to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth-round, No. 139 overall, draft choice, reports Adam Schefter, of ESPN. Fantasy Tip: Washington signed his one-year tender, but the Seahawks still gave up very little to get a player who should serve as the bright lightning to draft day acquisition LenDale White's thunder. Seattle's swaps don't leave Julius Jones and Justin Forsett in a very good fantasy position. Expect at least one of them to be gone. Washington has serious No. 3 fantasy back potential, at least in PPR leagues, as long as Seattle uses him in the passing game. His recovery from a compound fracture in his right leg will tell the tale, so monitor his offseason progress.
Thu, 15 Apr 2010 09:16:01 -0700 Randy Lange, of NewYorkJets.com, reports New York Jets RB Leon Washington said head coach Rex Ryan told him his role could increase when he shows he is completely healthy from his broken leg.

Thu, 25 Mar 2010 20:16:57 -0700 Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Jets RB Leon Washington's agent, Alvin Keels, responded to recent comments made by head coach Rex Ryan. Keels said, "Leon is a bit taken back about the reports of him taking a reduced role in 2010, especially since we are 4 months from the opening of camp. "However, Leon is focused on rehab right now so that he can be the dynamic player in 2010 that he has always been. How the Jets plan to use him is totally up to the coaching staff, he just wants to be totally prepared for whatever his role will be. Leon has always been a team player and that isn't going to stop now. Coaches tend to find a way to utilize a guy with his play making ability."
Tue, 23 Mar 2010 14:58:58 -0700 Bert Hubbach, of The New York Post, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the team should put RB Leon Washington in his old role as a third-down back and returner. "What we should do ... is put [Washington] back to his role, which he had initially, which is third-down back, a change-of-pace type back and a Pro Bowl returner," Ryan said. "And there's nothing wrong with that."
