Former Canadian Football League WR Andy Fantuz, who signed a futures contract with the Chicago Bears Feb. 4, participated last week in the team's unofficial offseason workouts led by QB Jay Cutler, according to an NFL source. Fantuz drew considerable praise from a few players in attendance at the workouts. Fantuz was said to display impressive athletic ability and good hands while running routes.

Ryan Pyette, of the London Free Press, reports undrafted rookie free agent WR Andy Fantuz (Western) didn't make good on a recent invitation to work out for the NFL's Detroit Lions. He turned down the opportunity because he was feeling under the weather and was concerned he wouldn't be able to compete at full capacity. He has now signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL, who drafted him in the CFL Draft.

The Canadian Press reports the Detroit Lions are giving undrafted rookie free agent WR Andy Fantuz (Western Ontario) a tryout at their minicamp this weekend. If he impresses Lions' coaches, he could be offered a contract as an undrafted free agent. "We're still talking to other teams about maybe signing," Fantuz said Tuesday, May 2. "But for now, this (going to Lions camp) is the plan."
