Wed, 28 May 2014 13:32:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said 2B Tommy La Stella will play on a regular basis, and the team will mix 2B Dan Uggla in when there is a good matchup.

Braves | Tommy La Stella coming up

Wed, 28 May 2014 10:06:45 -0700

The Atlanta Braves will be recalling 2B Tommy La Stella from the minors Wednesday, May 28. It's unclear what the corresponding roster move will be, but 2B Dan Uggla will remain on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella, one of the club's top prospects, should receive consistent playing time at the keystone. He's a polished hacker that makes solid contact, but his power won't impress many folks. Still, he's a decent addition to any NL-only squad, and perhaps he's a solution for a desperate deep mixed team with needs at middle infield.

Braves | Time apparently up for Dan Uggla

Tue, 13 May 2014 18:09:24 -0700

The Atlanta Braves plan to use 2B Tyler Pastornicky at second base for a majority of the time over the next few days. That means 2B Dan Uggla will be on the bench looking on.

Fantasy Tip: The team has been patient with Uggla, but he has just struggled to produce offensively. He has seen his playing time dwindle, and now he is only worth keeping on reserve in deeper NL-only fantasy formats. It doesn't sound like he will be cut, but he will be spending a lot of time on the bench, which certainly isn't good for his already depleted value.

Braves | Weighing 2B options

Thu, 08 May 2014 20:23:17 -0700

The Atlanta Braves are weighing their options for their second base position. They're not going to release 2B Dan Uggla, but he's testing Atlanta's patience. Uggla hasn't started four of the last nine contests as the Braves will continue handing Ramiro Pena and Tyler Pastornicky playing time in the coming weeks. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is unsure how he'll divide playing time between the two, and it's possible prospect Tommy La Stella could factor in eventually.

Braves | Players want Tyler Pastornicky?

Wed, 07 May 2014 00:22:54 -0700

Although the Atlanta Braves have expressed confidence in 2B Dan Uggla, some players have privately indicated an opinion that 2B Tyler Pastornicky could be more productive in the spot. IF prospect Tommy La Stella was also mentioned.

Braves | Dan Uggla back in the lineup

Tue, 06 May 2014 18:07:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez inserted 2B Dan Uggla back into the lineup Tuesday, May 6, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He insisted Monday, May 5, that Uggla's omission was not a "benching," and he said he planned to have him back Tuesday. Fans were upset because Uggla's replacement Monday, INF Ramiro Pena, had a homer and double. "In any sport, your bench players are your bench players for a reason," Gonzalez said. "And I think fans don't understand that."

Fantasy Tip: While Uggla might be skating on relatively thin ice in other places, it sounds like he is on pretty firm ground in Atlanta despite his struggles. However, if he doesn't improve, it is more likely prospect Tommy La Stella gets a call-up rather than shift Pena, whom the team values for his defense at three infield positions.

Braves | Tommy La Stella could be called up soon

Mon, 05 May 2014 12:51:23 -0700

The Atlanta Braves could consider recalling 2B Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Gwinnett in the near future to help the team get more offensive production out of their second base position. La Stella is batting .313 with a .372 on-base percentage with Gwinnett while 2B Dan Uggla has five hits and 13 strikeouts in his last 41 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella likely would get a lot of playing time if he is recalled soon. He probably would be a solid pickup in NL-only leagues when he is recalled. He could also be an option in deeper leagues for owners looking for a middle infielder.

Braves | Four regulars out of lineup

Tue, 29 Apr 2014 15:52:00 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Chris D. Johnson, OFs B.J. Upton and Justin Upton and 2B Dan Uggla are all out of the lineup Tuesday, April 29, as the team faces Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. The Braves struck out 14 times in eight innings against Hernandez the last time they faced him. 2B Ramiro Pena, OF Jordan Schafer, C Ryan Doumit and SS Tyler Pastornicky all received starts.

Braves | Dan Uggla in hot stretch

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 12:10:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Dan Uggla is 4-for-8 with two home runs and seven RBIs in his last two games after going 6-for-37 (.162) with two doubles, three RBIs, one walk and 11 strikeouts in his first 10 games.

Fantasy Tip: Remember that Uggla is one of the streakiest hitters in all of baseball, but the hot stretch this early is good to see after he made some changes in the offseason. Ride him while he's hot.
