The Minnesota Twins owe SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka $6 million over the next two seasons, so he won't be cut, and it is unlikely he'll be traded, as no team will have interest in paying him. He will instead fight for a utility infielder spot behind SS Jamey Carroll and 2B Alexi Casilla.

Minnesota Twins 2B Alexi Casilla (hamstring) was impressive in winter ball in the Dominican Republic, batting .336 with an .831 OPS in 31 regular season games for Gigantes del Cibao, and he batted .397 in 17 playoff games. He missed 57 of the Twins' final 58 regular season games due to a strained right hamstring, but he was healthy enough for winter ball and feels that the strong performance will get him back on track.

Minnesota Twins assistant athletic trainer Dave Pruemer said Tuesday, Sept. 13, that 2B Alexi Casilla (hamstring) might still return this season. "The reports out of Minnesota is that he's feeling pretty good and running," Pruemer said. "So, we just need to get him back running the bases and see where we're at with him."
