The Arizona Republic reports Arizona Cardinals LB Gerald Hayes has recovered from reconstructive knee surgery and gained a few pounds, up to 253, to help him withstand the physical demands of the position. Head coach Dennis Green has made it clear that Hayes will have to beat out LB James Darling to earn a starting job. "I kind of expected it," Hayes said. "They can't take anything away from him. He played a whole season. And they don't really know exactly what I can do, coming off the injury." The repaired knee is fine, Hayes said, and his main challenge now is just trusting that it will hold up under stress.
