Sat, 18 May 2013 13:52:09 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment for Double A Altoona Saturday, May 18.
Thu, 16 May 2013 13:28:51 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (elbow) will make three more rehab starts, putting him on track to return to the team in early June. Morton threw four innings (61 pitches) for Double-A Altoona Thursday, May 16, and he'll make his next start with Triple-A Indianapolis. SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will make his next rehab start and go four innings or 65 pitches with Altoona Saturday, May 18.
Sun, 12 May 2013 08:52:13 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) is expected to throw three innings or make approximately 50 pitches during a rehab start for Class A Bradenton Monday, May 13.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 14:49:47 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) could pitch on the side at extended spring training for his next outing. Manager Clint Hurdle said the team still sees Karstens as a starter.
Wed, 24 Apr 2013 18:06:26 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Friday, April 26.
Fri, 19 Apr 2013 11:27:41 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke, who allowed four runs and six hits while walking four and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, April 18, could stick around in the rotation even after SPs Jeff Karstens (shoulder) and Francisco Liriano (arm) return from their injuries. Fantasy Tip: Locke will have to pitch better than his effort last night to convince Clint Hurdle to keep him in the rotation. In Locke's defense, he was facing a red-hot Atlanta Braves squad. Only consider Locke in NL-only leagues, especially since he may be without a job in a few weeks.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 18:27:40 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday, April 18.
Sat, 06 Apr 2013 16:19:43 -0700 Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) was scheduled to throw on flat ground Saturday, April 6.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 14:00:58 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder), SP Francisco Liriano (arm) and SP Charlie Morton (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list. All three moves are retroactive to March 22.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 10:21:10 -0700 The Pittsburgh Pirates added 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) and SP Jonathan Sanchez to the opening day roster Tuesday, March 26. Sanchez will be the team's No. 4 starter because SP Jeff Karstens (shoulder) is dealing with a sore shoulder. "In spring training, he's looked much closer to the guy he was in 2011 and '10 than the guy who struggled in '12," general manager Neal Huntington said. "Jonathan's last two starts have been very encouraging. The offspeed pitches have been very effective and the fastball command has been good." Inge could open on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his right shoulder. He's played in only four games since being hit by a pitch March 14. Fantasy Tip: Sanchez isn't the type of pitcher that most fantasy baseball players look to add to their stable of pitchers because of his continuing control problems. If he can strike out hitters in bunches, though, he'll be useful again - at least in NL-only leagues.
