Cardinals | Matt Adams, Brandon Moss to compete

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 14:25:39 -0800

St. Louis Cardinals 1Bs Matt Adams and Brandon Moss will compete for the starting first base job in spring training, and Moss will have the inside track, in the opinion of MLB.com's Paul Casella. Both players hit from the left side, but Adams has a line of just .197/.230/.317 in his career against left-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Moss has the experience and Adams has youth and much more pop on his side. Both first basemen are coming off down years and will be cheap in fantasy drafts. This could be a straight platoon with Adams facing righties and Moss facing lefties, for the most part. Adams is more attractive to fantasy owners because of his power, even if he's only playing against right-handers.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss could play reserve role

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 17:22:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Brandon Moss could be brought back as a reserve player next season, according to general manager John Mozeliak.

Fantasy Tip: Moss hit .226 with 19 home runs and 58 RBIs in 145 regular-season games. He is a relatively inexpensive source of power in FantasyScore and could be a productive player in certain matchups but is not a great option for seasonal fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss playing first base

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 11:55:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Brandon Moss will bat sixth and play first base against Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks in Game 2 of the National League Division Series Saturday, Oct. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) was just 3-for-25 against the Cubs during the regular season and only hit .219 in 320 at-bats versus right-handed pitching, although he did have 15 home runs and 40 RBIs. Better first base options are available in FantasyScore today.

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 15:22:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with 1B Brandon Moss hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) was 2-for-2 last night, but he's a boom-or-bust option on FantasyScore against Shelby Miller.

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 12:15:43 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Wagner Saturday, Sept. 26, batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has a somewhat unfavorable matchup this afternoon. He is batting only .211 versus right-handed pitching this year and is hitting just .204 at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting vs. Reds

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 14:56:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth against Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson Tuesday, Sept. 22. 1Bs Brandon Moss and Mark Reynolds remain out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Many folks may have forgotten about Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap). He has played sparingly since coming off the DL but has a solid matchup against the youngster Sampson. Adams is worth a gamble for his cheap price on FantasyScore tonight.

Cardinals | Matt Adams sitting

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 08:49:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (quadriceps) is out of the lineup Friday, Sept. 18, with 1B/OF Brandon Moss hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has a meager .238-2-4 line this month, but he is 3-for-10 (.300) with a homer against Dan Haren lifetime. He's a shaky midrange option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss heating up

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 10:45:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss hit a 454-foot home run off Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer in the loss Wednesday, Sept. 2, giving him two homers in as many at-bats after he hit the walkoff home run Tuesday, Sept. 1. Moss now has four long balls in seven games and is 9-for-18 and has raised his average to .239 after starting slow after being acquired at the trade deadline. After offseason hip surgery, he hit only .217 with 15 home runs in 94 games for the Cleveland Indians, and he has struggled to find his groove at the plate all year. A short time on the bench with St. Louis not too long ago allowed him to strengthen his legs and find a rhythm with his swing.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Moss' ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) resurgence has coincided with recent rest and the fact that he's finally fully healthy this season. It could be too late for fantasy owners, but adding Moss now could push you over the top in the power category in the final month. There's a good chance he's still available in many leagues. As we always say, it never hurts to ride the hot hand on FantasyScore, either.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds sitting Wednesday

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 15:09:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 2. 1B Brandon Moss moves to first base and is hitting fifth against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer, while OF Tommy Pham draws into the lineup and is starting in center field and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) hit a walkoff home run last night and has been heating up at the plate for the Cards, but even a matchup against the struggling Scherzer should have you tempering your expectations that he'll remain hot. Pham ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is intriguing at his price, but a matchup against Scherzer should scare most off.
