Cardinals | Matt Adams not in the starting lineup

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:27:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (back) took swings in the batting cage and said his back in fine, and he should be available off the bench against the Washington Nationals Friday, May 27. 1B Brandon Moss is starting at first base against Nationals SP Max Scherzer Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Adams is heating up with 11 runs, four home runs, 15 RBI and a .383/.420/.702 slash line through 60 plate appearances in May. He is a viable option at first base in all fantasy formats, but just note, he'll receive the odd day off with all the options St. Louis has at first base. Moss checks out as a risky option in daily contests Friday, as it is a tough matchup against Scherzer. Plus, Moss has just a single multi-hit game through his past 14 starts.

Cardinals | Matt Adams exits with back injury

Thu, 26 May 2016 17:22:33 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (back) was removed from the game against the Washington Nationals Thursday, May 26, due to stiffness in the middle part of his back. OF Brandon Moss moved from left field to first base, with OF Jeremy Hazelbaker sliding over to left field from center field and OF Randal Grichuk entering the game to play center.

Fantasy Tip: Adams was 12-for-23 (.522) in his last eight games with three doubles, three homers and nine RBI, with his batting average going from .275 to .320 over this stretch. The severity of his injury is not yet known, so check back occasionally for updates on his status.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss starting vs. Washington

Thu, 26 May 2016 13:45:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and batting fifth against Washington Nationals SP Joe Ross Thursday, May 26. OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is a low-end option in the majority of seasonal leagues because he isn't receiving consistent at-bats, and of his eight home runs, two were pinch-hit bombs. He is a viable option in daily contests Thursday, but you'll likely be able to find a better price-matchup combo. Make sure to avoid Holliday in all fantasy formats Thursday.

Cardinals | Matt Adams draws in at 1B

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:46:24 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and hitting fifth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Tuesday, May 24. 1B Brandon Moss will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has two home runs in his last three games and has knocked in 13 runs in 15 games in May. Play the hot hand and run with him in daily and traditional setups if you own him. Despite a small sample size, Adams has four hits (two doubles) and an RBI in nine career plate appearances against Hammel.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss starting Monday

Mon, 23 May 2016 12:54:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is starting at first base and is hitting fifth against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Monday, May 23. 1B Matt Adams will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is hitting just .218 but has eight home runs and 22 RBI on the season. He has good numbers against Lackey in his career, hitting at a clip of .364 with two RBI in 12 plate appearances. Moss certainly profiles as a fine value pick in daily setups today.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday out of the lineup

Sun, 22 May 2016 11:06:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke Sunday, May 22. OF Brandon Moss will start in left field and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Moss has only one hit in his last seven games, so owners should be able to find better options to use in their starting lineups.

Cardinals | No Brandon Moss, Matt Adams

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:45:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1Bs Brandon Moss and Matt Adams are not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. 3B Matt Carpenter is starting at first base, and SS Ruben Tejada is starting at third base and batting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Moss and Adams have been splitting time at first base, but the left-handed hitters will receive the night off against the southpaw, so sub them out where you can in seasonal leagues. Adams has swung the better bat of late with a .314/.368/.429 slash line and 11 RBI through 38 plate appearances in May. Tejada is nothing more than a desperation flier in all fantasy formats Friday.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss playing 1B

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:41:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is starting at first base and is hitting sixth against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Chris Rusin Wednesday, May 18. 1B Matt Adams will start on the bench against the lefty.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately for Moss he's back in the lineup against a lefty, and he's hitting just .192 with two RBI against southpaws this year in 26 at-bats. Rusin isn't the most feared lefty, but Moss' daily upside is low with the lefty-on-lefty matchup.

Cardinals | Matt Adams in cleanup spot

Tue, 17 May 2016 13:48:29 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and hitting cleanup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Tuesday, May 17. 1B Brandon Moss starts on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has garnered more playing time at first than Moss of late, and Adams is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with a homer and six RBI so far in May. The burly left-handed slugger has plenty of power and has a decent matchup to take advantage of in daily games. He's batting .295 with all three of his long balls against righties in 2016.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss not in Sunday lineup

Sun, 15 May 2016 14:29:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss is not in the lineup Sunday, May 15, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Matt Holliday is at first base for the game and will bat third against Dodgers SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is on the bench because of the lefty vs. lefty matchup, so don't be surprised if he pinch-hits once Wood is out of the game. Holliday is hitting very well, with a .300 batting average, three homers and five runs batted in over the past week. Needless to say, he should be in any fantasy format.
