Cardinals | Brandon Moss not quite there

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:31:18 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss (ankle) said the only thing holding him back right now is baserunning. Moss said cutting around the bases bothers him.

Fantasy Tip: Moss is slated to start a rehab assignment early next week, so his return doesn't look to be far off. He's hitting only .256 this year, but his 17 homers and 40 RBI certainly play in most deep mixed and NL-only leagues. He's also a great value play when he's in the lineup against certain right-handers in daily leagues.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss out of boot

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:03:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss (foot) is out of his walking boot and is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment early next week, according to general manager John Mozeliak.

Fantasy Tip: Moss had been playing sparingly for the Cardinals but has 17 home runs and 40 RBI on the season and is useful in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he faces certain right-handed pitchers. If he was dropped in those formats, consider adding him if you need help in the power department.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss still in walking boot

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 06:25:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss (ankle) is eligible to be activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 16, but remains in a walking boot.

Fantasy Tip: Moss likely will need more time to recover and may need to go on a rehab assignment before he is able to return. Moss has been a valuable fantasy option this season and should continue to be owned despite the injury.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss put on DL

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:13:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss (ankle) was put on the disabled list with an ankle sprain Tuesday, July 5. OF Randal Grichuk was recalled from Class AAA Memphis in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Moss was playing sparingly and was hitting .251, but his 17 home runs made him a viable fantasy option in most seasonal leagues. Keep him stashed in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Grichuk hit an abysmal .206 with eight home runs and 27 RBI before his demotion, and he's not guaranteed regular playing time. Watch him for now in deep mixed leagues to see if he's made an adjustment.

Cardinals | Two Cardinals starters on the bench

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 13:48:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Brandon Moss and C Yadier Molina are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Steven Brault Tuesday, July 5. 2B Jedd Gyorko will start at first base and is batting sixth, while C Brayan Pena will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has been a bit inconsistent at the plate over the last few weeks and probably should be avoided in most mixed leagues. Pena was recently activated from the disabled list and has gone hitless in his four at-bats. Owners should see him play in a few more games before using him in their lineups.

Cardinals | Tommy Pham scratched

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 11:08:12 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Tommy Pham (undisclosed) was scratched from the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday, July 4. OF Stephen Piscotty will start in center field, while 1B Brandon Moss will start in right field and is batting seventh against Pirates SP Jon Niese.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if Pham is dealing with a serious injury. Moss has struggled against left-handed pitchers this season but can still be a decent option in daily fantasy leagues is hitting .251 with 17 home runs and 40 RBI.

Cardinals | Brandon Moss out Monday

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 09:01:27 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Brandon Moss is out of the lineup Monday, July 4, with 2B Jedd Gyorko hitting seventh. 2B Kolten Wong is also out with OF Tommy Pham hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has done very little thus far, but he typically hits lefties well. Jonathon Niese is a decent matchup for him, and he's a basement consideration. Pham deserves low-end consideration as well.

Cardinals | Stephen Piscotty out Thursday

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 14:29:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty (ankle) is not in the lineup Thursday, June 30, versus the Kansas City Royals. 1B/OF Brandon Moss will cover right field and bat cleanup, while 2B/OF Kolten Wong draws a start in center field and hits second against SP Chris Young.

Fantasy Tip: Piscotty injured his left ankle in Wednesday's contest, and it looks like it's enough to keep him out for one ballgame, if not more. As long he remains out, this benefits both Moss and Wong, who would each see more playing time in the outfield as a result.

Cardinals | Aledmys Diaz not playing

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 14:04:49 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SS Aledmys Diaz (eye) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. SS Greg Garcia is starting at shortstop and is batting ninth against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura. Also, 1B Brandon Moss is starting in left field and is hitting second with OF Matt Holliday serving as the designated hitter in an American League park.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia carries little fantasy value despite his .415/.547/.610 slash line in 41 at-bats because of very limited playing time. Garcia also has very little power to speak of and is one to avoid in DFS because he's hitting ninth. All 16 of Moss' homers have come against righties and the two-hole makes him more attractive to daily gamers tonight.

Cardinals | Matt Adams, Kolten Wong out

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:04:44 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals left-handed SP Danny Duffy Monday, June 27. 2B Jedd Gyorko is starting at first base and is hitting eighth, while 1B Brandon Moss starts in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has hit .229 in limited playing time this year. He has power potential with seven home runs on the year and his most recent long ball coming yesterday, but he's an all-or-nothing daily play with limited upside. Moss has 16 bombs on the year but is batting just .208 with zero home runs against southpaws on the season. He's one to avoid.
