Twins | Ricky Nolasco not guaranteed a spot

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:57:50 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco is not guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation to open the season, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor said SP Tyler Duffey "has a really good chance" to crack the rotation. SP Tommy Milone is a player that will battle with Nolasco for a job, and RP Trevor May will receive a look, as well. SP Jose Berrios will receive a look and could become a rotation option sometime this season.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco has posted ERAs over 5.00 each of the last two seasons and pitched only 37 1/3 innings in 2015 because of injury. It's a stretch to think he can help many fantasy owners outside of deep AL-only leagues if he wins a rotation spot. Duffey, despite a lack of pitch speed, can generate strikeouts with his diverse arsenal. He's not a bad gamble in deep mixed leagues in a pitcher's park if he wins a job.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco set to join bullpen

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 14:54:06 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) is expected to be activated from the 60-day disabled list as soon as Friday, Sept. 25, and he will pitch out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) loses all fantasy value outside of being a desperation hold in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. He hasn't pitched since Sunday, May 31, and he owns a 5.40 ERA through 191 2/3 innings since joining the Twins. Nolasco carries extremely limited fantasy value.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco rehab update

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 17:41:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Sept. 16, and he is scheduled to throw a simulated game Friday, Sept. 18. If all goes well, he will pitch in the instructional league Monday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: There remains a slight possibility that Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) could return to the majors before the end of the regular season but if that happens, he would likely pitch out of the bullpen. He would have no FantasyScore value as a reliever, so he should be ignored until next year.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco able to play catch

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 19:47:52 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) was able to play catch Monday, Aug. 24, without any issues. He is scheduled to throw again Wednesday, Aug. 26, or Thursday, Aug. 27, but manager Paul Molitor added there is still no timetable for Nolasco's return.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if we'll see Nolasco return this season, and for a veteran making a lot of money for a losing club there really is very little reason to rush him back. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him unless he can officially return and knock off the rust in a start or two. There simply might not be enough time for that.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco to play catch

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 12:21:48 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) is scheduled to play catch Wednesday, Aug. 19, after jogging in the pool without suffering any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: There's no timetable for Nolasco's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) return to action, and with time running out on this season, it seems unlikely that he'll have much of a fantasy impact. You can ignore him everywhere for now.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco's status up in the air

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 10:18:43 -0700

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said it's too early to determine whether SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) will be able to pitch again later this season. He is expected to be fitted with a walking boot soon after doing some rehab work with assistant athletic trainer and rehab coordinator Lanning Tucker. The team won't know his status for the remainder of the season until after he has the boot removed, which will be several weeks away.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap), who underwent right ankle surgery earlier this week, was 5-1 with a 5.51 ERA in seven starts this year. He can be dropped in all fantasy formats despite the glimmer of hope for his return, based on his struggles over the last two seasons for Minnesota.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco undergoes ankle surgery

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 15:15:18 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) underwent right ankle surgery Monday, July 13, in Charlotte, N.C.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has no return timeline, and he can be dropped in all fantasy formats. He has a 5.40 ERA, 4.04 FIP, 1.54 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 through his last 34 starts over the past two season. You can do better in all fantasy formats.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco to 60-day DL

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 09:17:45 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is set to have surgery on his ankle Monday, and there is no timetable for his return. You should drop him if you own him in a shallow mixed league.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco set for surgery

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 17:18:54 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) will have ankle surgery Monday, July 6. There is no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Nolasco will be able to pitch, but with ankles and lower legs essential to a pitcher's success, it wouldn't be shocking to see Nolasco done for this season. FantasyScore owners should take him off of their radars.

Twins | Ricky Nolasco looking for another opinion

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 14:04:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) is set to receive another opinion on his injured left ankle, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has a 5.40 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 over his last 34 starts. Those aren't the statistics fantasy owners are looking for, in any format. At best, Nolasco is worth the odd spot start in the most favorable of matchups when healthy. Continue to check back for updates on what is next for the starter.
