Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said he still trusts RP Carlos Marmol, the team's primary eighth-inning setup man, in big late-game situations despite the fact that Marmol blew the lead against the Washington Nationals by allowing a grand slam. "It's easy to second guess now. I still felt good about having Marmol out there. This guy has closed out a lot of games and pitched in a lot of big situations over the course of his career. That's why we signed him, to come in and take over for the guys we lost. We're going to need this guy to pitch in some big situations and some big games," Redmond said. RPs A.J. Ramos, Mike Dunn and Arquimedes Caminero could be used in the eighth inning if Marmol continues to struggle.
Fantasy Tip: Based on Redmond's statement, it would lead us to believe that Marmol is the primary handcuff to Steve Cishek in the ninth. As of now, however, Cishek is in no danger.

Miami Marlins RP Carlos Marmol had to leave spring training Saturday, March 1, to return to the Dominican Republic in order to deal with a visa issue. Manager Mike Redmond said the best-case scenario is that Marmol will return Monday, March 3, but there is a chance he could miss several days.

Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill noted how RP Carlos Marmol cleaned up his delivery in his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers late last season. "His delivery was cleaned up," Hill said. "He was working more at the plate. There were more strikes. Everything was better. We followed him this winter and saw him pitch a lot. It was that same carryover. We were very pleased with the development he had." Marmol was hitting 94-96 mph this winter.

Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said the team signed RP Carlos Marmol to provide some veteran depth in the bullpen. "If we were signing him to our closer but we're not. We're bringing him to be part of a solid bullpen. We feel like we have quality already so to add this caliber of player was a no brainer for us," Hill said. Hill also mentioned the fact that Marmol was successful while closing in the Dominican this winter.

The Miami Marlins signed free-agent RP Carlos Marmol (Dodgers) to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.
Fantasy Tip: Steve Cishek remains the incumbent ninth-inning man in Miami, but if Marmol continues to show the improvement he yielded late in the year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he could steal some closures or the job outright if Cishek stumbles.

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Carlos Marmol is likely to pitch in middle relief for the team. He allowed two home runs in three innings with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and tossed two scoreless innings with Double-A Chattanooga down on the farm. He went 2-4 with a 5.86 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 21 games for the Chicago Cubs earlier this year.
Fantasy Tip: The Blue are set with Kenley Jansen as their closer. Marmol won't threaten for the closer role at any point for the rest of the season and probably won't be an option to pitch meaningful late innings, either. He shouldn't be considered in fantasy circles.
