The agreement allows both sides to avoid an arbitration hearing which was scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Rangers continue their streak of not going to any arbitration hearings since 2000.

"The ankle felt pretty good," Napoli said. "I ran with a sled to put a little weight behind it and it came out pretty good. I think it's just me trusting it again. I'm going to have to work through some pain and feel some things, but it's feeling good. I still have to get some more strength in it, but it's definitely on its way."

Andrus is asking for $3.6 million and the team is countering with $2.65 million. Cruz wants $7.5 million with the team countering with $5.5 million. Harrison submitted $3.5 million and the team submitted $2.45 million and finally, Napoli is asking for $11.5 million with the team countering at $8.3 million.
Wed, 11 Jan 2012 21:14:54 -0800 Texas Rangers C Mike Napoli (ankle) said Wednesday, Jan. 11, that his left ankle feels better, although he is still unable to run. He said he tried to test the ankle a week or 10 days ago, and couldn't run comfortably so he shut it down. "But it's getting stronger," Napoli said. "There was no reason for me to push it, but it's getting stable. Dr. Meister looked at it (earlier in the offseason) and we're on track. I'll be ready for spring training."

However, he is likely to get a one-year contract. "We love Mike and we're not closing the door on anything, but right now we are focused on a one-year deal," Daniels said. Napoli, who is eligible for arbitration, can be a free agent after this season.
