Both underwent Tommy John surgery last season. "They're doing fine. I think both of them threw [Saturday]," manager Ned Yost said. "Duffy threw 20 pitches in a game and Paulino threw like 25 pitches in BP with good results. They're fine." Both are aiming for minor league pitching assignments in the next month or two.

"It'd be nice to come in, finish out the season and be the push or whatever - a fresh arm. Paulino feels the same way - I can speak for him on that," Duffy said. "It's going to be a good time, late July when we're firing on all cylinders and me and Paulino can come back and fit in wherever we can." Duffy has been throwing at a distance of 105 feet during his rehab.

The deal includes $250,000 in performance bonuses. He's expected to be ready to pitch in the middle of next year after undergoing ligament replacement surgery on his elbow.
