Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said he is considering using an eight-man bullpen at the beginning of the regular season. With the status of RP Andrew Bailey (thumb) up in the air, RPs Alfredo Aceves, Mark Melancon, Matt Albers, Franklin Morales and Vicente Padilla appear to be locks to make the bullpen. RPs Scott Atchison, Michael Bowden and Justin Thomas are also in major league camp and could make the 25-man roster.

The Boston Red Sox bullpen allowed just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts Saturday, May 7, against the Minnesota Twins. The bullpen was needed to go longer after SP Clay Buchholz had his start limited to five innings due to rain. RPs Rich Hill, Matt Albers, Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon each worked a scoreless frame.

The Boston Red Sox activated RP Matt Albers (lat) from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 21, and optioned RP Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.
