Texas Rangers RP Koji Uehara, who is interested in returning to the Baltimore Orioles, would be used as an eighth-inning setup man and wouldn't unseat RP Jim Johnson if the Orioles acquired him. However, the Rangers are asking a lot in return for Uehara.

The Baltimore Orioles offered a contract to SP Brad Bergesen Monday, Dec. 12, as well as to arbitration-eligible Ps Dana Eveland, Jeremy Guthrie, Jim Johnson and Darren O'Day. INF Robert Andino and OF Adam L. Jones were also offered contracts.

Baltimore Orioles RP Jim Johnson has received a save opportunity in five of his last six appearances, but manager Buck Showalter wouldn't rule out using RPs Kevin Gregg or Pedro Strop in a save situation. Showalter said he didn't see Strop as the team's closer next year.
