|Braves | Jason Grilli looks to be ready|
Mon, 21 Mar 2016 11:12:49 -0700
Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli (Achilles') pitched a scoreless inning Sunday, March 20, and he is showing that he should be ready for opening day after throwing in two spring games after a March 11 simulated game. His fastball was at 94 mph Sunday, so his arm strength is almost back to normal. Grilli is expected to make at least five more appearances before the regular season. The Braves will choose between Grilli and RP Arodys Vizcaino for the closer role. Vizcaino has looked good this spring, giving up three hits and striking out 11 in six spring innings. RP Jim Johnson projects to be the setup man.
Fantasy Tip: The Braves could go with a closer-by-committee to start the year between Grilli and Vizcaino, which will limit both of their fantasy upside. Grilli is a veteran and has the experience, but Vizcaino has the upside after proving worthy of the job in 2015. Both relievers are endgame selections as your third fantasy closer.

|Braves | Closer-by-committee in Atlanta?|
Tue, 15 Mar 2016 11:01:47 -0700
Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli (Achilles') will make his spring debut Thursday, March 17, and the Braves think he has enough time to be ready for opening day April 4. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he could use Grilli in a combination with RPs Jim Johnson and Arodys Vizcaino when Grilli is ready. Johnson and Vizcaino would likely split closing duties if Grilli isn't ready. "It will be probably the same situation (as last year)," said Gonzalez, who never used Grilli in three consecutive games and sometimes rested him after one game if it was a high pitch-count inning. "I can use all three. Mix and match. Absolutely."
Fantasy Tip: Grill is the front-runner for the majority of saves in Atlanta, but it depends on his health. He's high-risk, high-reward at age 39 for saves speculators. Vizcaino showed he had the stuff to get the job done in place of Grilli last year, and Johnson has the experience factor.

|Dodgers | Jim Johnson records save Thursday|
Thu, 27 Aug 2015 17:50:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: CL Kenley Jansen had pitched in each of the team's previous three games, so it appears he was just getting the day off. This was Johnson's first save with the Dodgers, after he notched nine with Atlanta earlier this season.

|Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster|
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700
The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.
Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

|Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera|
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700
The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.
Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

|Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD|
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700
The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.
Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

|Dodgers | Jose Peraza in proposed deal|
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:45:57 -0700
Atlanta Braves 2B Jose Peraza is included in the proposed deal with SP Alex Wood, RP Jim Johnson and RP Luis Avilan headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Miami Marlins would send SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers as well. The Marlins would receive P Jeff Brigham, P Victor Araujo and P Kevin Guzman. The Braves would receive RP Paco Rodriguez and 2B Hector Olivera.
Fantasy Tip: The deal is still pending because of physicals. Peraza probably doesn't have a role with the Dodgers this season, but he's a dynasty league commodity. Jim Johnson would lose much of his fantasy value as a setup man in LA. Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be the front runner to close in Atlanta if the deal goes through.

|Braves | ATL on verge of adding Mike Morse?|
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:09:59 -0700
Miami Marlins OF Michael Morse could be on his way to the Atlanta Braves as part of a three-way trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources. The Braves would be parting with SP Alex Wood and RP Jim Johnson, while they also would receive a compensation pick.
Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has done next to nothing this season in Miami, hitting a paltry .214 in 159 at-bats with four doubles, four homer and 12 RBIs while striking out 54 times. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him some good, but FantasyScore players should bother with him right now.

|Braves | Atlanta listening on certain players|
Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:18:20 -0700
Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski, OF Jonny Gomes and RP Jim Johnson are all available in trades at the deadline this week. The Atlanta Braves are in listening mode, and all three of these players are on cheap one-year deals.
Fantasy Tip: While Pierzynski ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) and Johnson currently have prominent roles with the Braves and would lose considerable fantasy value in any trades, Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is unlikely to see his already weak value change much in a trade. Keep Arodys Vizcaino's name in your back pocket if you are searching for saves this week, as he could be in line to take the closer's role if Johnson leaves town.

|Braves | ATL shopping three players|
Fri, 24 Jul 2015 17:10:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season, batting .203 with four home runs and 13 RBIs through 62 games entering play Friday, July 24. On the other hand, Maybin ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is enjoying arguably the best season of his career, hitting .283 with eight homers, 44 RBIs and 16 steals through 83 contests. Johnson is 2-3 with a 2.15 ERA and eight saves since replacing Jason Grilli as the Braves' closer.
