Yankees | Chris Stewart available

Fri, 17 May 2013 12:56:34 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said C Chris Stewart (groin) is available in an emergency situation for a few days.

Fantasy Tip: With Francisco Cervelli (hand) also out, Austin Romine will handle the catching duties for at least the next couple of days. Add him if you need catching help in deep AL-only formats.

Yankees | Chris Stewart could hit DL

Thu, 16 May 2013 21:39:37 -0700

New York Yankees C Chris Stewart (groin) might be placed on the disabled list after injuring his groin during game action Thursday, May 16. He was sent for an MRI after he pulled up lame running into third base in the seventh inning.

Fantasy Tip: If Stewart misses time, Austin Romine would take over primary catching duties with Francisco Cervelli (hand) out for at least next month. That boosts his AL-only value and might make him worthy of adding in cavernous, two-catcher mixed leagues. Maybe they'll add someone else, though.

New York Yankees C Chris Stewart (shoulder) was hit on the shoulder by a foul tip but will play Saturday, March 16. OF Zachary Heathcott (knee) is dealing with patellar tendonitis.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is competing with Francisco Cervelli for the starting gig, but Cervelli has a leg up in the competition. Stewart should only be considered in AL-only leagues, and deep ones at that.

Yankees | Francisco Cervelli, Chris Stewart in tight race

Fri, 15 Mar 2013 10:51:37 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said there's no clear favorite for playing time between C's Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart, and the organization may not determine the split until the regular season begins. Girardi noted that each backstop did "a nice job with their staff" this spring. Cervelli and Stewart are out of minor league options.

Fantasy Tip: Mild prospect Austin Romine was also brought up earlier in the offseason as a candidate, but he was just sent to minor league camp and will be on call if they want to start his arbitration clock. He presents the most fantasy upside of this trio but is only a draft-day investment for AL-only pickers and an inseason free-agent target for two-catcher mixed leagues. Cervelli has a smidge more promise with the bat than Stewart, but neither should be on your dual-universe cheat sheet yet.

Yankees | Francisco Cervelli expected to make team

Tue, 12 Mar 2013 17:30:59 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is expecting C Francisco Cervelli to make the roster despite the fact that he's hitting only .227 this spring. Cervelli has excelled defensively, though, which is what Girardi looks for in his everyday catcher. C Chris Stewart is competing with Cervelli for the starting job. C Bobby Wilson is the other backstop on roster.

Yankees | Austin Romine in good shape

Tue, 12 Feb 2013 13:59:58 -0800

New York Yankees C Austin Romine said he lost 13 pounds in the offseason as he worked hard on his core strength to avoid back problems that he dealt with last season. Cs Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart will fight for the starting catcher job this spring, but Romine is hoping he can figure into the mix to avoid starting the season at Class AAA.
