Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon managed his 1,000th game with the club Saturday, May 5, against the Oakland Athletics. He is 514-486 in seven seasons with Tampa Bay; the Rays had only 518 victories prior to his arrival. Maddon joined Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia (1,972 games), Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire (1,647 games) and Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel (1,162 games) as the only active skippers to manage at least 1,000 games with their current team. Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland will also join this group Sunday, May 6.

The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a three-year contract extension with manager Joe Maddon Tuesday, Feb. 14. An official announcement is expected to come Wednesday, Feb. 15. Financial terms weren't given.

The Tampa Bay Bays and manager Joe Maddon are expected to complete a three-year contract extension some time this week once he returns from a trip to Europe. The deal should be announced well before the Feb. 20 opening of spring training.
