Safety was considered one of the weakest positions at season's end for the Denver Broncos and they plan to address it during the free-agent market. With S Brian Dawkins (neck) contemplating retirement at 38 years of age, the Broncos need to address the position. The team has youngsters Rahim Moore, Quinton Carter and Rafael Bush, and Moore will get a chance to win a starting job during the offseason. However, he needs to improve his tackling and the Broncos want someone to lead the defense from the safety position. Free-agent Brandon Meriweather (Bears) would be a potential target.

Chicago Bears FS Brandon Meriweather, an impending free agent, is not expected to be re-signed by the team. Head coach Lovie Smith seemed lukewarm about Meriweather's time in the Windy City. "He came in a tough situation, was always in catch-up mode, and it didn't work out," Smith said. "I really liked him being on our football team. He showed up every day to go to work. Again, for a lot of us starting with me, the season didn't go the way we wanted it to go."
