Panthers | Greg Olsen goes to IR

Tue, 19 Sep 2017 11:33:04 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 19, after having surgery on his broken foot Monday, Sept. 18. Specifically, Olsen broke the fifth metatarsal on his right foot and had a screw inserted to repair the fracture, according to Carolina's head athletic trainer.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tremendous loss for an already struggling offense. Ed Dickson will take over as the starting tight end, but his fantasy value doesn't hold a candle to Olsen's. Don't add him to replace Olsen unless you're desperate.

Panthers | Greg Olsen to have surgery

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 08:49:36 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will undergo surgery on his broken right foot and miss six to eight weeks. The team will decide after surgery whether he'll be placed on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return.

Fantasy Tip: If you have roster space, hold on to him and stash him for the stretch run. Ed Dickson had two grabs for 26 yards in his absence, but he doesn't have much fantasy appeal. Expect Kelvin Benjamin to see more targets with Cam Newton's security blanket out. K-Benj is a good WR2 to have.

Panthers | Greg Olsen likely out six games

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 05:32:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) figures to miss six games and could go on the Reserve/Injured list designated to return. It's not a season-ending injury.

Fantasy Tip: Ed Dickson had two catches for 26 yards in the game, and he has very little roster appeal. Kelvin Benjamin should see more looks in Olsen's absence as a WR2.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 13:45:55 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he suffered a broken foot during the team's Week 2 game.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen probably will be a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list depending on his timetable, so owners will need to look for other options at the position. Ed Dickson likely will take over as Carolina's starting tight end but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 11:51:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) will not return to the team's Week 2 game because of his foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to look for an update on Olsen's status after the game to see if he will miss more time. Olsen is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and is a must-start option when he is healthy, but owners may want to look for other options in case Olsen misses time.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 20:17:40 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen was limited to just two catches for 18 yards on four targets in Week 1 at San Francisco.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is starting out in a bit of a hole as he tries for his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season. Despite the slow day, he'll be just fine for fantasy owners going forward. He'll look to get back on track in Week 2 against the visiting Bills.

Panthers | Greg Olsen incentives increase

Thu, 31 Aug 2017 13:53:41 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen had $2 million added to his incentives Thursday, Aug. 31, according to a source. The incentives are based on catches, receiving yards, average yards per catch and other achievements.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is an elite NFL tight end, tallying more than 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. His three touchdowns in 2017 left something to be desired, but Olsen should be one of the first three tight ends taken in fantasy drafts.

Panthers | No Greg Olsen extension imminent

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 20:27:07 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen's agent has talked with interim general manager Marty Hurney about a possible contract extension for Olsen, but no deal is imminent at this point, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is looking for a new deal but will probably have to wait until next offseason for a deal. He has been one of the most consistent tight ends in the NFL and should be a No. 1 fantasy tight end in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Extension coming for Greg Olsen?

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 18:42:11 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen is one of the players the team is "looking at" an extension for, general manager Marty Hurney said Thursday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has one of the highest floors of any tight end and should be one of the first players at his position selected in all formats.

Panthers | Greg Olsen to play out his deal

Tue, 25 Jul 2017 07:54:56 -0700

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen said he plans to play out his contract. He said he didn't want to add to the distractions for the team after general manager Dave Gettleman was fired.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old has three straight 1,000-yard seasons and averaged 80.3 catches per season. His value took a hit last year when his three touchdowns were half of what he scored in each of the previous three seasons. A healthy Cam Newton should bring that back up to the norm, and Olsen is a high-end TE1 just devoid of much upside.

Panthers | Greg Olsen will report on time

Mon, 24 Jul 2017 15:26:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen will report to training camp on time Tuesday, July 25, even though he considered holding out because he wants a new contract, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL over the last several years and will continue to be a big part of the team's passing game. He will be a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end for owners as long as he is healthy.

Panthers | Greg Olsen can make history in 2017

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 15:38:39 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen can become just the fourth tight end ever to gain at least 1,000 yards in four seasons. Not only that, but achieving 1,000 yards this season would mark the fourth straight year in which Olsen has reached that mark.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from Rob Gronkowski, Olsen is arguably the best tight end in the NFL. He's certainly the most consistent at his position. View him as an early- to midround pick.

Panthers | Still no decision made Greg Olsen's contract

Sat, 15 Jul 2017 08:04:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen and his agent still have yet to make a decision regarding whether or not Wilson will show up for training camp. Olsen is due to make $6.5 million in each the next two seasons and ranks 12th in guaranteed money, making the three-time Pro Bowler one of the more underpaid tight ends in the league.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is also 32 years old, so he is likely looking at his final opportunity to land a big contract. It would be a surprise if he holds out, just like it would be a minor shock if the team didn't try to appease him in some way. Assuming he reports to camp in time, Olsen needs to be considered among the top-five tight ends in fantasy yet again.

Panthers | Greg Olsen could hold out

Wed, 21 Jun 2017 07:21:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen doesn't rule out holding out of training camp for a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old has three straight 1,000-yard seasons, but last year's three touchdowns really hurt his stock. He's still an effective, high-end TE1 in fantasy. However, the ceiling might not be as high as others in that tier.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen hopes to receive a new deal that would pay him like one of the top tight ends in the NFL, according to sources. His $7.5 million per year average ranks seventh among tight ends in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has posted at least 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons and has at least five touchdowns in eight of his last nine seasons. Olsen will continue to be one of the main targets in the team's passing game and should be a No. 1 tight end in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Greg Olsen at practice

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 08:40:45 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (elbow) returned to practice Friday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has been steady, but his three touchdowns are what have kept him from reaching expectations in fantasy. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the better defenses against TEs the last five weeks, but he's a solid TE1 option in PPR formats.

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 22:40:03 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen managed just four receptions for 45 yards on five targets in the Week 12 game against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen's fantasy line was rather disappointing considering how poor the Raiders pass defense has been. He'll look to rebound in Week 13 on the road in Seattle, but it might be tough sledding against a much tougher pass D.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 18:10:48 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen posted six receptions for a team-high 94 yards on seven targets in the Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers are struggling this season, but Olsen brings it every game and has at least 64 yards in each of his games with five or more grabs in each outing. He remains a top-notch TE1 in all fantasy leagues, although owners will have a big hole in Week 7 with the team on a bye.

Panthers | Greg Olsen back at practice

Sun, 28 Aug 2016 14:51:13 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) returned to practice Sunday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers know what they have in Olsen, who missed practice time with back spasms two weeks ago and sat out the team's preseason game against the New England Patriots on Friday but has otherwise been healthy. Cam Newton's top target hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2007 and doesn't appear to be in jeopardy of threatening that streak.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22. The extent of Olsen's participation was not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from Cam Newton, Olsen is arguably the most valuable offensive player the Panthers have, so this is great news for Carolina and Olsen owners. As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks leading up to the regular season, he's a top-five tight end on any draft board.

Carolina Panthers TEs Greg Olsen (back) and Ed Dickson (undisclosed) are inactive against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 20. Olsen is recovering from back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Dickson has little to no fantasy value as long as Olsen is healthy, which Olsen should be by Week 1. He was Cam Newton's favorite target last year, and he should still be one of the first tight ends drafted even with the return of Kelvin Benjamin.

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 15:29:24 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen's (back) MRI on his ailing back came back negative, according to head coach Ron Rivera, but Olsen is still dealing with a big spasm.

Fantasy Tip: The timetable for Olsen's return wasn't made clear, but it shouldn't be too long since it's not too serious of an issue. He's one of the most reliable tight ends in the NFL and should be one of the first three tight ends taken in fantasy drafts.
