Panthers | Greg Olsen not playing Friday

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 15:54:18 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) will not play in the preseason game against the New England Patriots Friday, Aug. 26, because he is recovering from back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen should be fine for the regular season and does not need to play in the preseason. He will receive plenty of targets this season and should be a No. 1 tight end in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Greg Olsen returns Monday

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 12:51:11 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22. The extent of Olsen's participation was not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Aside from Cam Newton, Olsen is arguably the most valuable offensive player the Panthers have, so this is great news for Carolina and Olsen owners. As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks leading up to the regular season, he's a top-five tight end on any draft board.

Panthers | Greg Olsen, Ed Dickson sitting

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 12:01:13 -0700

Carolina Panthers TEs Greg Olsen (back) and Ed Dickson (undisclosed) are inactive against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 20. Olsen is recovering from back spasms.

Fantasy Tip: Dickson has little to no fantasy value as long as Olsen is healthy, which Olsen should be by Week 1. He was Cam Newton's favorite target last year, and he should still be one of the first tight ends drafted even with the return of Kelvin Benjamin.

Panthers | Greg Olsen still hurting

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 15:29:24 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen's (back) MRI on his ailing back came back negative, according to head coach Ron Rivera, but Olsen is still dealing with a big spasm.

Fantasy Tip: The timetable for Olsen's return wasn't made clear, but it shouldn't be too long since it's not too serious of an issue. He's one of the most reliable tight ends in the NFL and should be one of the first three tight ends taken in fantasy drafts.

Panthers | Greg Olsen doesn't practice

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 15:48:02 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) did not practice Monday, Aug. 15, due to back spasms he suffered Sunday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully it's not a lingering issue for Olsen, and it will be a good sign if he returns to practice this week. In the meantime, his fantasy value is status quo. He has top-three tight end potential again this year.

Panthers | Looking for Devin Funchess to step up

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:58:36 -0700

The Carolina Panthers hope WR Devin Funchess can pick up where he left off at the end of the regular season in 2015. If he can secure the starting job opposite WR Kelvin Benjamin, the team would have an impressive three-headed monster with TE Greg Olsen.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess has a ton of drops last season, as he appeared overwhelmed when thrust into a meaningful role in his rookie season. If he can stay healthy, avoid the drops and make further progress, he might be a worthwhile WR3/4 or flex play in most leagues of 12 or more teams.

Panthers | Greg Olsen not planning on slowing down

Thu, 19 May 2016 18:45:04 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen said he anticipates playing for several more years and plans on making it tough on any new tight end to take away his reps.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen won't have to worry about any competition for at least next season, and he is locked in as a top-five fantasy tight end.

Panthers | Greg Olsen held in check

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 23:48:39 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen had four catches for 41 yards Sunday, Feb. 7, in Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos were efficient at shadowing Olsen on midrange routes. "They did a nice job with Greg," Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula said. "He's so talented in the passing game, but we were in a lot of long yardage. They can kind of focus on him and do different things."

Fantasy Tip: Olsen had a big 77-1,104-7 season and should be in the discussion for the second-best tight end after Rob Gronkowski. He'll be a top-five choice at the position in next year's drafts.

Panthers | Greg Olsen excels on deep passes

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 10:25:55 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen has 22 receptions on passes thrown between 15 and 30 yards downfield in 2015 (including playoffs), the most since New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski and former New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham each had 21 in 2011.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski was 3-for-3 on such throws in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos, so Olsen could be primed for a huge day in Super Bowl 50, especially since the Broncos' safeties (T.J. Ward and Darian Stewart) are both battling lower-body injuries. Olsen could easily be the most productive skill-position player on either side on Super Sunday.

Panthers | Greg Olsen burns Arizona

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 19:40:19 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen caught six passes for 113 yards in a 49-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has been the most consistent weapon for the Panthers' passing attack all season, and he should remain a high-end TE1 in 2016.
