The latest Scott Rice MLB and fantasy baseball news
Thu, 25 Apr 2013 14:19:49 -0700 New York Mets RP Scott Rice was used in the ninth inning of a tied ball game Thursday, April 25, because manager Terry Collins doesn't want to overuse RP Bobby Parnell by using him late in tied games. The Los Angeles Dodgers had a string of left-handed hitters coming to bat, too. Rice ended up letting the Dodgers take the lead and eventually win. Parnell later entered in the inning to clean up the damage, and he let an inherited runner score. Collins is also trying not to overuse RPs Scott Atchison and Brandon Lyon. Rice has entered in the eighth inning or later in each of his last five outings.
Fantasy Tip: Parnell is the team's unquestioned closer, but Rice's utilization late in games shows Collins' confidence in the southpaw. Rice is solid against lefties, and he induces plenty of ground-ball outs, but don't expect him to be used in any save situations.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:48:03 -0700 The New York Mets selected the contracts of RPs LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Rice and Scott Atchison and OF Marlon Byrd Friday, March 29. They also outrighted SS Reese Havens and RP Darin Gorski to the minors.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 16:00:50 -0700 New York Mets RPs Pedro Feliciano, Scott Rice and Robert Carson are all in competition for a spot in the team's bullpen, but there is a chance that none of them crack the roster. RP Josh Edgin is the lone lefty that is secured a spot in the bullpen. RP Darin Gorski was sent to the minors and the team is stretching RP Aaron Laffey out as a starter. Carson may have the advantage since he's already on the 40-man roster. The team may choose to carry RP Jeurys Familia over these three, however.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 16:37:14 -0800 New York Mets RP Pedro Feliciano (heart) will wear a heart monitor on the field when he pitches. Feliciano must beat out RPs Robert Carson, Darin Gorski, Scott Rice and Aaron Laffey to become the other lefty reliever alongside RP Josh Edgin in the bullpen.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 11:48:50 -0800 New York Mets RP Pedro Feliciano has the leg up on an open bullpen spot to join RP Josh Edgin as the second lefty reliever. P Scott Rice could also get a strong look in camp, and RPs Robert Carson and Aaron Laffey are other possibilities.
