Los Angeles Dodgers special adviser Tommy Lasorda is recovering from a bacterial infection that caused the 83-year-old to be hospitalized four days last week.

The Dayton Daily News' Hal McCoy reports the Cincinnati Reds are in discussions with C Mike Piazza (Athletics), according to a New York-area Web site. According to the Web site, Reds manager Dusty Baker said "I'm confident Piazza will sign with the Reds. Tommy Lasorda wants him to play for me."

Updating a previous report, John Nadel, of The Associated Press, reports former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda will manage eight split squad spring training games for the Dodgers in March while manager Joe Torre and the rest of the team plays two exhibition games in China.

Dylan Hernandez, of the Los Angeles Times, reports former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda will manage the team when they could be playing their last game in Vero Beach, Fla. With manager Joe Torre and part of the team travels to China, Lasorda will manage the rest of the team. The team is expected to move their spring training site to Glendale, Ariz.

The Associated Press reports former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda is happy to have Joe Torre aboard as the team's new manager. "I'm so happy for him. I think his record speaks for itself," said Lasorda, a special adviser to Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. "I think what he accomplished with the Yankees, he should have been able to control his destiny. We're happy that he's here -- very happy."

USAToday's Bob Nightengale reports former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda said he believes San Francisco Giants OF Barry Bonds used steroids. "I've lost a lot of respect for him," Lasorda said. "For me, records were meant to be broken. But you don't do it by cheating. When you're stealing signs, that's all part of the game. But when you cheat to that degree, it's not good at all."

The Los Angeles Times' Bill Shaikin reports former Los Angeles Dodgers MAN Tommy Lasorda is a candidate to coach the United States team when the World Baseball Classic is played in March 2006. "I would really like to do that. That would be special, simply because you're talking about the United States," Lasorda said.
