Tom D'Angelo, of The Palm Beach Post, reports Florida Marlins SP Josh M. Johnson has increased the velocity on his fastball from 92-93 mph last season to 93-96 this spring. Johnson's solid spring can also be accredited to an improved slider and changeup, according to pitching coach Mark Wiley. He is currently sporting an ERA of 3.00 this spring.

Joe Capozzi, of The Palm Beach Post, reports Florida Marlins RP Scott Proctor (elbow) is experiencing elbow discomfort and will be held out of action until next week. Proctor is participating in a special long-toss program designed to help him work through the breaking up of scar tissue in his right elbow. Pitching coach Mark Wiley said he thinks Proctor will be ready for the start of the regular season.

The Detroit Free Press' Jon Paul Morosi reports Florida Marlins pitching coach Mark Wiley, who is signed through 2009, is unlikely to receive permission to interview for another job. The Detroit Tigers could be interested in hiring him.

Joe Frisaro, of Marlins.MLB.com, reports the Florida Marlins have hired Mark Wiley to serve as the team's pitching coach. Wiley was previously a scout and special assistant to the general manager for the Colorado Rockies.

Joe Capozzi, of the Palm Beach Post, reports early indications are that the Florida Marlins will offer Mark Wiley the job of pitching coach when the World Series is over. Wiley was on Florida's staff in 2005 when SP Dontrelle Willis won 22 games. He is currently a scout with the Colorado Rockies.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Juan C. Rodriguez reports the Florida Marlins are at odds with new MAN Joe Girardi over who he wants as pitching coach. Girardi wants to hire four-time big-league All-Star Jimmy Key while the Marlins want him to retain incumbent Mark Wiley.
