The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Kip Wells (blood clot), who is recovering from blood clot surgery, will come to Pittsburgh within two weeks to throw several bullpen sessions under the watch of pitching coach Jim Colborn. General manager Dave Littlefield said Wells then will return to Bradenton to compete in extended spring training, followed by a stint in Indianapolis, and that he remains on pace to return by the All-Star break.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic reports Pittsburgh Pirates SP Kip Wells believes part of his problem last season resulted from an inconsistent approach from then-pitching coach Spin Williams, and he believes new MAN Jim Tracy and pitching coach Jim Colborn will turn things around. "One game, I'd be a power guy. The next time, I'd try finesse. I'd throw to the middle of the plate one game, to the corners the next. I need to establish a good regimen from a mechanical standpoint, then don't waver when things don't go right," Wells said.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitching coach Jim Colborn is showing concern about Dodgers P Hideo Nomo's decreased velocity coming off of shoulder surgery in the offseason, according to Jason Reid of The Los Angeles Times. "It might take longer than we thought because he never had any pain during spring training," Colborn said. "But the history with anybody is it takes quite a while after their repair to get back to full strength, so maybe it was underestimated."
