Bud Black Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Bud Black MLB and fantasy baseball news
Mon, 19 Nov 2012 19:03:29 -0800 The San Diego Padres have picked up club options for 2014 and 2015 on manager Bud Black. He will be entering his seventh season at the helm in 2013.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 23:14:01 -0700 San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly will not start for the rest of the season. The Padres have decided to shut down Kelly, and SP Anthony Bass will start Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Padres manager Bud Black said it was also unlikely that Kelly would pitch in the Arizona Fall League as previously scheduled. "He hasn't bounced back after his last couple starts," said Black. "His arm is just a little sore. He wanted to make his last start. I took the ball."
Fri, 13 Apr 2012 01:48:29 -0700 San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) will take live batting practice this weekend. Manager Bud Black said Quentin will remain in San Diego for rehabilitation purposes while the team travels to Los Angeles.
Tue, 28 Feb 2012 01:35:38 -0800 The San Diego Padres would like to see SP Cory Luebke continue to develop into a frontline starter and the Padres think that getting Luebke to throw his changeup more will help him achieve that. According to FanGraphs, Luebke used his changeup only 6.8 percent of the time in 2011, well behind the use of his fastball (64.3 percent) and slider (25.8). "I think the changeup is going to be critical for Cory as it is for a lot of pitchers. I think he knows that with the fastball and slider that the change a lot of times is a separator from guys who end up having successful, long careers," manager Bud Black said.
Wed, 26 Oct 2011 09:03:02 -0700 San Diego Padres manager Bud Black and Tampa Bay Rays skipper Joe Maddon, who previously were on Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia's staff, are not interested in becoming the team's next general manager. Many of the GM candidates are likely to be scared away from the position because of Scioscia's strong personality and opinions on matters normally reserved for the GM.
Sun, 23 Oct 2011 12:27:05 -0700 The Boston Red Sox have no plans to interview managers who are currently under contract with other teams, according to someone with knowledge of the situation. This means that the list of candidates for the job does not include Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell or San Diego Padres manager Bud Black, the latter of whom was a finalist for the job in 2003, when Terry Francona was chosen.
Thu, 06 Oct 2011 13:12:51 -0700 San Diego Padres manager Bud Black is speculated to be high on the list for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager opening. Black is familiar with manager Mike Scioscia and was once the pitching coach for the organization. The Padres would prefer to retain Black as their skipper for the short term and long term. The Angels have yet to ask for permission to speak with Black about the opening.
Sun, 07 Aug 2011 16:32:02 -0700 San Diego Padres OF Chris Denorfia (hamstring) said Saturday, Aug. 6, that he expects to return from the 15-day disabled list when eligible Aug. 16. Manager Bud Black said Denorfia will need several minor league rehab games before returning from the DL.

Patterson also might be forced to start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list.
