The Boston Red Sox finalized their coaching staff Friday, Dec. 23, naming Jerry Royster as their third base coach and Alex Ochoa as their first base coach. Bob McClure is the pitching coach, Tim Bogar will serve as the bench coach, Dave Magadan will return as the hitting coach and Gary Tuck will be the bullpen coach.

Royals | Guillen gets into heated exchange with coach

Kansas City Royals OF Jose Guillen got into a heated clubhouse exchange with pitching coach Bob McClure Saturday, July 5, prior to a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, according to The Associated Press. They argued face to face, but no punches were thrown. Guillen knocked over a few chairs before several players separated them. Guillen was in the starting lineup, and went 0-for-4, with two strikeouts. "It's been handled in-house and honestly," manager Trey Hillman said. "It's a non-issue. It's not a big deal. It's not going to characterize anybody."

Royals | Hochevar to open camp in bullpen

The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Royals RP Luke Hochevar will open spring camp in the bullpen, but pitching coach Bob McClure said Hochevar still has a chance to prove himself. "I want to break him in out of the pen," McClure said, "but he'll pitch longer than a short reliever. I can't say he's not a likely candidate (for the rotation). I can't put it to you that way. I'm going to have to watch him pitch."

Royals | Maroth corrects adjustment in pitch

Dick Kaegel, of Royals.MLB.com, reports Kansas City Royals pitching coach Bob McClure has helped SP Mike Maroth correct a mechanical problem in his throwing motion. "I shortened my stride just to get a better feel for it and my ball had a better downward plane, in just that little adjustment," Maroth said. "Actually, it was a major adjustment, if you think about it, but it made an impact on my release point and the way my ball was going to the plate."
