Mariners | Coaching staff announced

The Seattle Mariners' 2011 coaching staff was officially announced Friday, Nov. 5, according to The Tacoma News Tribune's Larry LaRue. Carl Willis will serve as the pitching coach, Chris Chambliss will serve as the hitting coach, Jeff Datz will be the third base coach, Jaime Navarro will serve as the bullpen coach, Robby Thompson will serve as the bench coach and Mike Brumley will be the first base coach.

Mariners | Two more coaches named

The Seattle Mariners will keep Carl Willis as their new pitching coach while adding Jaime Navarro as their new bullpen coach Thursday, Nov. 4, according to The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker.

Updating previous reports, Seattle Mariners pitching coach Carl Willis is expected to return to the team, according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday. He is not considered to be a candidate for the same position with the New York Yankees.

Mariners | Hire new staff

The Seattle Mariners hired Roger Hansen as the team's new bench coach and Carl Willis as the new pitching coach, according to The Associated Press. General manager Jack Zduriencik said the team will likely search for new managerial candidates in the offseason.

Joe Capozzi, of The Palm Beach Post, reports the Florida Marlins could be interested in free-agent pitching coach Chuck Hernandez (Tigers), former pitching coach Carl Willis and free-agent pitching coach Randy St. Claire (Nationals).

Indians | Miller throws slider

Indians.MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince reports Cleveland Indians RP Adam Miller (finger) threw his slider off the mound for the first time since he began pitching without bending the tip of his right middle finger. Pitching coach Carl Willis said Miller's slider is now more of a "slurve." It's a pitch that needs some work, but the results today were positive enough that we can safely say Miller took another step forward.

Indians | Team eases Sabathia's workout in camp

The Akron Beacon Journal's Sheldon Ocker reports Cleveland Indians SP C.C. Sabathia will stay in a five-day rotation with the team during spring training. ''Usually, all of our starters are on a four-day rotation until they've thrown three innings in exhibition games,'' Indians pitching coach Carl Willis said. ''After that, everyone goes to a five-day rotation. With C.C., he will be on a five-day rotation from the start.'' The pace of pitchers' fielding drills also has been slowed to lessen the workload on pitchers' legs.
