Chicago White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said he went behind former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's back to sign an extension is because Cooper was told Guillen was asked about giving his coaching staff extensions and said "let them sweat." "Cooper needs to look in the mirror," Guillen said. "He didn't back-stab me. I know who he is. He back-stabbed his fellow coaches, the guys he worked with for years. You got family? That's fine. Everyone does. We all knew Coop was (GM Kenny Williams' puppet.)"

White Sox | Chris Sale still in closer race despite control issues

Chicago White Sox RP Chris Sale will have what pitching coach Don Cooper calls an educational bullpen session Saturday, March 19, as Cooper tries to correct Sale's control issues. "He's still having location problems. Not throwing the fastball away from left-handers and getting it in to right-handers, and the breaking ball is not getting in enough," Cooper said. "He's leaving a few too many pitches out over the plate." Cooper said Sale has enough potential to remain in the closer's battle with RP Matt Thornton.

The Chicago Tribune's Joe Cowley reports the Chicago White Sox extended the contracts of hitting coach Greg Walker, pitching coach Don Cooper, bench coach Joey Cora and first base coach Harold Baines through the 2011 season. There are also whispers that general manager Kenny Williams was extended through 2012, when manager Ozzie Guillen's contract runs out, but Williams wouldn't comment.

Joe Cowley, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago White Sox have told SP Mark Buehrle that they want him to take a more active approach in his offseason workout program. "Buehrle has never been Johnny-condition guy in the winter," pitching coach Don Cooper said. "But now he's getting older and he needs to do more. We talked to him about this. He needs to pay more of a price before spring training."
