Former Atlanta Braves pitching coach Leo Mazzone said he is looking to become a coach for either the New York Mets or New York Yankees, according to the New York Post's Justin Terranova. The Yankees' pitching coach position is currently empty.

The Washington Post's Dave Sheinin reports Washington Nationals president Stan Kasten strongly denied that the team has been talking to free-agent pitching coach Leo Mazzone about serving the same role with the team. According to an industry source familiar with the talks, the Nationals have discussed their pitching coach job with Mazzone, whom Kasten knows from their days together with the Atlanta Braves.

The Associated Press reports the Baltimore Orioles have released pitching coach Leo Mazzone from his contract. "Moving forward, I felt that we would be better served with someone else working with our young staff and that it was in his best interests and our best interests to give him an opportunity to look elsewhere now," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. The Orioles will still be responsible for Mazzone's $500,000 salary this season; Mazzone had one year remaining on his contract from a three-year contract signed before the 2006 season.

Updating a previous item, Jeff Fletcher, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports Baltimore Orioles pitching coach Leo Mazzone found a flaw last year in then-Orioles and current San Francisco Giants SP candidate Russ Ortiz' pitching delivery and mechanics. "It was the same video I looked at again and again and never caught anything and he was able to catch something," said Ortiz. "It was how I was taking the ball out of my glove. It was unbelievable how much of a difference it was with everything, with velocity, with how the pitches look, with the life on the ball."
