The Boston Red Sox are considering bringing in Orel Hershiser as the team's pitching coach to replace Curt Young, but Hershiser may be part of a bid to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers and that would preclude him from taking the job.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers SP Orel Hershiser and 1B Steve Garvey said they have the financial backing to lead a group to buy the Dodgers. "I'm as serious as my heart beats," Hershiser said. "We think with the people we have in place and the assets we have in place, we will be a serious contender."

Susan Slusser, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports the Oakland Athletics will interview Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching coach Bud Black Monday, Nov. 6, followed by Colorado Rockies bench coach Jamie Quirk Tuesday, Nov. 7, and ESPN analyst Orel Hershiser Wednesday, Nov. 8. New York Mets third-base coach Manny Acta is scheduled to be interviewed Sunday, Nov. 12, while Texas Rangers bench coach Don Wakamatsu could be added to the list as well.

The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching coach Bud Black and New York Mets bench coach Manny Acta were added to the interview process for the Oakland Athletics manager job on Nov. 1. Black is scheduled for interview on Nov. 6, followed by Colorado Rockies bench coach Jamie Quirk on Nov. 7, ESPN baseball analyst Orel Hershiser on Nov. 8 and Acta the following day.

Josh Suchon, of the Contra Costa Times, reports the Oakland Athletics could contact former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Orel Hershiser, New York Yankees coach Larry Bowa and Colorado Rockies bench coach Jamie Quirk, about their vacant managers position. Those three were candidates for the Athletics last year when it was uncertain whether manager Ken Macha would return, and Athletics general manager Billy Beane could interview them this year with Macha leaving the team.
