Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington is putting an emphasis on his pitchers throwing inside to batters this spring. "We've got all these power arms we've been throwing out there, and we need them to throw inside for strikes," Washington said. "Now that they've been through the wars, it's time to start perfecting it and start using every part of the plate."

Rangers | Stressing pitchers defense in spring

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington watched intently Thursday, Feb. 23, and Friday, Feb. 24, as his pitchers took fielding practice. He stressed defense when he met with pitchers and catcher prior to Thursday's first workout. "We put ourselves in predicaments that we shouldn't have been in. If you throw it away, you throw it away," pitching coach Mike Maddux said. "But if you throw it away because your footwork is not sufficient, then we have an issue. That's the big thing - fundamentals."

Rangers | Unlikely to use six-man rotation

Although the Texas Rangers have a plethora of starting pitching, manager Ron Washington is not likely to use a six-man rotation. He also said he considered SP Alexi Ogando a starter, although he has not named a rotation to build around Ogando.

Rangers | Ron Washington wants more replay in World Series

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said he is in favor of expanded replay for the World Series but not for the regular season. "Maybe that's what they need to get it right in the World Series," Washington said. "You want everything to be right, that's all. I don't want to be having everything replayed (in the regular season). It could be imposed in the World Series because of the magnitude of the game."

Rangers | Michael Young to play the field during Atlanta series

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said DH Michael Young would play in the field at least the first two games against the Atlanta Braves when the Rangers lose the DH because of interleague play. It's possible Young could also start Sunday, June 19. Washington said he expected to move 1B Mitch Moreland to the outfield for the majority of the weekend, which means the OF Endy Chavez-OF Craig Gentry platoon probably would be shelved for a couple of days. Moreland is likely to play right, with OF Nelson Cruz moving to left and OF Josh Hamilton moving from left to center.

Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando will not go back to the bullpen, according to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. "We're going to straighten out what we've got and let Ogando take the ball every fifth day," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "You can't rob Peter to pay Paul, and you can't pay Paul until Peter gets it done."

Rangers | Ian Kinsler named leadoff hitter

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington intends to use 2B Ian Kinsler as his leadoff hitter and SS Elvis Andrus as his No. 2 hitter during the regular season, after having experimented with this lineup change in two recent intrasquad games, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. The rest of the batting order includes OF Josh Hamilton hitting third, followed by 3B Adrian Beltre, OF Nelson Cruz, DH Michael Young, 1B Mitch Moreland, C Yorvit Torrealba and OF Julio Borbon.
