Mariners | Chris Iannetta with the night off

Tue, 03 May 2016 15:32:40 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3. C Steve Clevenger is doing the catching and is hitting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger is an option if you prefer to scrape the bottom of the fantasy barrel for your daily catcher. He has only three hits in 21 at-bats (.143) on the year and has just four career home runs in six MLB seasons.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta sitting out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:33:38 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, April 27. C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger is hitting only .188 so far this season but has gone 2-for-6 in the last seven days. Clevenger is not a strong starting candidate and should be avoided by owners.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta out of the lineup

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:05:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Sunday April 24. C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger has recorded three hits, one home run and RBI in his last two games and could be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Mariners | Steve Clevenger starting vs. Yankees

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 06:57:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Steve Clevenger is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Sunday, April 17. C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger has an underwhelming .232/.287/.336 slash line through 404 career plate appearances against right-handed pitchers, so he is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for daily contests Sunday. Make sure to avoid Iannetta in all fantasy formats, and he is best left to cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues anyway.

Mariners | Steve Clevenger named backup catcher

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 14:51:56 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Steve Clevenger was named backup catcher Sunday, April 3, and he will spell C Chris Iannetta.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger is only worth playing in very deep AL leagues, as he likely won't see enough playing time to merit No. 1 status on your catcher roster. Keep an eye on Clevenger if Iannetta goes down, however.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta starts fast in opener

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 18:32:38 -0800

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta blasted a two-run homer and drove in three runs in an exhibition season-opening win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, March 2.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta has already been assured he will be the starting backstop in Seattle if healthy. Moving from Angel Stadium to SAFECO Field isn't going to do him any favors as far as his power numbers are concerned, but the Mariners' lineup should afford him plenty of run-producing opportunities. As a result, Iannetta could easily emerge as a low-end fantasy starter this season.

Mariners | Financials for Chris Iannetta

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 18:54:17 -0800

Updating a previous report, the deal for Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is for one-year at $4.25 million plus incentives. There is also an option.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta is expected to be the starting catcher with Mike Zunino serving as his backup. Iannetta knows the American League West well since he is coming over from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, a team Dipoto previously served as general manager.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta to be primary catcher

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 16:52:51 -0800

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta was signed to be the team's primary catcher next year, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta had his worst season as a pro in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, hitting only .188 (51-for-272) with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. While there's a good chance he'll hit over .200 next year with double-digit home runs, Iannetta's fantasy value remains limited to two-catcher leagues, especially with the move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field. The signing also shows how much Seattle has soured on Mike Zunino.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta signs with Seattle

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 15:05:41 -0800

Free-agent C Chris Iannetta (Angels) signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners Monday, Nov. 23. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta hit 10 home runs last season in just 317 plate appearances, but his .188 batting average is too much of an anchor to roster in the majority of seasonal leagues. At best, Iannetta is a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats heading into the 2016 season.

Mariners | SEA close to signing Chris Iannetta

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 17:06:46 -0800

Free-agent C Chris Iannetta (Angels) appears to be close to signing with the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Iannetta isn't much of an offensive upgrade over the backstops Seattle used last season and it's uncertain if he would immediately step into a starting role. He hit .188 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 272 at-bats last season and should only be considered as a backup option in single-universe fantasy leagues.
