MLB.com's Ken Mandel reports Philadelphia Phillies P Shane Youman will compete for a job as the team's second left-handed bullpen option. He also has previous starting experience. Last year, the 28-year-old went 3-5 with a 5.97 ERA in 16 games (eight starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also went 4-6 with a 4.70 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Paul Meyer reports the Pittsburgh Pirates have designated P Shane Youman for assignment. The Pirates have 10 days to decide whether to release Youman, put him through waivers or trade him.
