Kent Babb, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards compares second-round pick CB Brandon Flowers to other diminutive cornerbacks: Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Ronde Barber and retired CB Donnie Abraham. "He just fits the mold of the mental makeup," Edwards said. "You always measure height, weight, speed, size - and those are great measurables. But at the end of the day, it's the mental toughness you have to play that position."

The New York Jets have officially announced the retirement of CB Donnie Abraham on Monday, July 18. "My decision to retire from the game that I've enjoyed playing for nine seasons is in the best interest of my family and our future," said Abraham, who retires after playing nine seasons in the NFL. "This is an opportunity for me to spend more time with my children and pursue personal business interests. This was a tough call to make because of how well the Jets' organization has treated me as a player and a person, and how much I enjoy playing with the guys on this team."

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports New York Jets CB Donnie Abraham has indeed told team officials he plans to retire. One of the NFL's classiest performers, Abraham is leaving the game on his terms and at a point when he is still a very productive player. "Donnie just decided that for family reasons, and because of some business opportunities, the time was right," agent Jack Reale told ESPN.com on Thursday evening, July 14. "He is very appreciative of what the Jets have done for him, the time that (coach) Herm Edwards gave him to sort this out, and the understanding the organization showed him. But he has some exciting things out there, he's been very smart with his money, and one more year in the game wasn't going to make much difference."

Dave Hutchinson, reports for the Star Ledger, New York Jets CB Donnie Abraham will report Monday, May 23 to the latest round of organized team activities. He says he's still contemplating retirement largely because of family concerns and feels this week will help him make a final decision. "Who knows where this thing is going to go," Abraham told The Star-Ledger. "I'm coming back to OTAs and see how things go. Part of you wants to keep going and part of you is saying maybe that's enough. The biggest thing is (head coach Herman Edwards) gave me the opportunity to do what I wanted to do." He also said he has no timetable on his decision but he'll likely give the Jets plenty of notice.

Randy Lange, reports for the Bergen Record, New York Jets CB Donnie Abraham may not be retiring when all is said and done. Head coach Herman Edwards said he expects Abraham to participate in the Jets' second set of organized team practices beginning Monday, May 23 bringing an end to speculation that Abraham was about to announce his retirement from football. Early Monday, May 16, Jack Reale, Abraham's agent, said: "Reports of his retirement are a little premature at this point. Donnie played well last year and he has plenty of gas left in the tank."

Michael Felger, of the Boston Herald, reports the New England Patriots went to the air 44 times against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 14, because Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and QB Tom Brady felt it was the best plan of attack against the Eagles' well-regarded defense. Don't be surprised if it's more of the same Sunday, Sept. 21, against the New York Jets. In addition to missing starting Jets CB Donnie Abraham, the Jets will be without top nickel LB Jason Glenn. Taking his place will be second-year rookie free agent Khary Campbell, who never has played with the regular defense.

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets CB Donnie Abraham (shoulder) is expected to miss eight weeks with a right shoulder fracture, but Jets head coach Herman Edwards said team doctors are still considering whether to perform surgery or not. Either way, Abraham is expected to miss the same amount of time.
