Wed, 22 May 2013 16:37:46 -0700 Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz is getting a shot at the leadoff spot since he's started to swing the bat better recently. He's gone 2-for-5 with a walk in his last two starts after previously going 4-for-46. SS Alcides Escobar (three games), OF Jarrod Dyson (three games), OF Lorenzo Cain (three games) and OF David Lough (three games) were all tried in the top spot. Fantasy Tip: Maybe this keeps Getz going after he picked it up in the last couple of games. If he can peform well in the top spot, it'll help his chances of convincing Ned Yost that he belongs in the lineup on a daily basis, along with the fact that Yost has had trouble finding suitable leadoff hitters. Getz is mainly middle infield insurance in cavernous mixed leagues.
Tue, 21 May 2013 17:03:25 -0700 Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar was out of the lineup in favor of 2B Elliot Johnson Tuesday, May 21. He is down to .249 after getting only 10 hits in his last 62 at-bats. "He's just in a funk right now," manager Ned Yost said. "So we'll give him a day, and maybe two, just to take it easy. He might be in there (Wednesday). I don't know. He just needs to catch his breath a little bit." Fantasy Tip: Escobar is the team's starting shortstop, and Johnson doesn't have much chance of stealing his full-time job. For now, sit Escobar on your bench if you have a better option for shortstop duties.
Thu, 09 May 2013 16:29:17 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon has moved from the leadoff spot to third Thursday, May 9, with 1B Billy Butler hitting cleanup. "The most important two spots we have in the lineup right now should be manned by Gordy and Billy," manager Ned Yost said. "That's three and four. Everything else is interchangeable depending on who's hot and the matchups." The team's No. 4 hitter has ranked last in RBIs (seven), extra-base hits (six) and slugging percentage (.277), and they are ranked 29th among 30 teams with a .271 on-base percentage. SS Alcides Escobar is batting leadoff with OF Lorenzo Cain following him. Escobar prefers to hit second and has much more experience in that slot, but he doesn't have a problem hitting atop the order. 2B Chris Getz and OF Jeff Francoeur returned to the lineup Thursday, but they'll need to show production soon if they want to keep everyday jobs. Yost plans on using this new-look lineup for an extended period of time. Fantasy Tip: Right now, Gordon and Butler are the team's best hitters, so it makes sense to put them in the biggest run-producing spots in the lineup. Yost also cited that it splits up his left- and right-handed bats in Gordon and Eric Hosmer and Butler and Mike Moustakas.
Wed, 08 May 2013 15:07:52 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering changing up his lineup in the near future that would possibly include moving OF Alex Gordon from leadoff to third in the lineup and increased playing time for OF Jarrod Dyson and 2B Elliot Johnson. Dyson started in center field Wednesday, May 8, and OF Lorenzo Cain shifted to right in place of struggling OF Jeff Francoeur. Johnson started for the second day over 2B Chris Getz. Gordon is hitting only .180 (9-for-50) when leading off an inning compared to .490 (24-for-49) with runners on base. Yost is considering Dyson, Cain or SS Alcides Escobar for options at leadoff. Moving Gordon to third in the lineup would allow 1B Billy Butler to return to the cleanup spot. Fantasy Tip: This could have varying degrees of fantasy implications. For one, this will give Gordon more opportunities for RBIs, and it also should put Dyson on the radar of deep mixed gamers if Francoeur continues to lose out. Yost believes Eric Hosmer eventually deserves to be the three hitter, but he's holding off until he picks it up at the plate.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 16:44:02 -0700 Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (foot) returned to the lineup Wednesday, March 13, after missing the game with a bruised right foot Tuesday, March 12. SS Alcides Escobar (back) should return by the weekend.
Tue, 12 Mar 2013 13:35:51 -0700 The Kansas City Royals scratched SS Alcides Escobar (back) from the lineup with minor back tightness Tuesday, March 12. He would play if it were the regular season.
Tue, 12 Feb 2013 08:37:20 -0800 Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar may miss one workout because of a visa issue. He's expected to report later this week.
Mon, 17 Dec 2012 08:39:05 -0800 Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar is hitting .342 in 18 games in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Mon, 01 Oct 2012 13:22:58 -0700 Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (groin) and SS Alcides Escobar (shoulder) are both in the lineup Monday, Oct. 1, but 1B Eric Hosmer (shoulder) remains sidelined.
Sun, 30 Sep 2012 23:04:03 -0700 Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson stole his 30th base on Sunday, Sept. 30. Together with SS Alcides Escobar's 32 steals, the team has two 30-steal players for the first time since 1985.
