Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan scratched

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 15:34:02 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan (illness) has been scratched from the starting lineup Tuesday, July 26, because of flu-like symptoms. C Sandy Leon will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Leon is still having success at the plate this season and has recorded two home runs and 10 RBI this month. Leon should be a solid starting option in two-catcher leagues and some mixed leagues.

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:54:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Mike Pelfrey Tuesday, July 26. C Ryan Hanigan will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan is hitting only .173 in limited playing time this season and should be avoided by owners in all fantasy leagues.

Red Sox | Mookie Betts, David Ortiz resting Sunday

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:39:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Mookie Betts (knee) and DH David Ortiz are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Sunday, July 24. 1B Hanley Ramirez will bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter, with INF Travis Shaw batting seventh and playing first base and OF Bryce Brentz playing left field and batting eighth. In addition, C Ryan Hanigan will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw is just 2-for-17 (.118) over the past seven days, while Hanigan is 2-for-12 (.167) during the month of July. Both players should be avoided in all fantasy formats. Brentz is batting .308 versus southpaws this season and is worthy of consideration as a value play in DFS.

Red Sox | Sandy Leon to see lion's share of starts

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:19:26 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Sandy Leon will start three of every five games with C Ryan Hanigan serving as the personal catcher of SP Steven Wright.

Fantasy Tip: Leon is scorching hot right now (20-for-40 through 15 games), but he posted a .187/.258/.225 slash line through his previous four seasons, so you'll want to keep expectations in check going forward. However, Boston has a potent lineup, so Leon is definitely worth grabbing in deep mixed leagues, if you're searching for a backstop option. Hanigan remains a desperation own in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan making progress

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:52:24 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan (neck) is scheduled to catch a full game Wednesday, June 29, with Class AAA Pawtucket. He will have his status evaluated after the game.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan is making progress, and he could be back in Beantown sometime soon. Still, when healthy he is only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in most deeper AL-only fantasy formats and as a salary saver in DFS leagues.

Red Sox | Christian Vazquez in danger?

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 04:45:30 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Christian Vazquez could be in danger of losing his roster spot with C Ryan Hanigan (neck) nearing a return and C Sandy Leon swinging a bat well.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox have a glut at catcher when you also factor in Blake Swihart, although Swihart is getting more outfield work to make up for that. You may want to see which direction Boston goes at catcher before putting down a player for a daily or regular roster spot. Right now the situation is too fluid.

Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan close to rehab stint

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 13:37:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan (neck) is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week.

Fantasy Tip: With a .186/.250/.229 slash line, Hanigan is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only setups, but his return will likely push Sandy Leon back to the minors.

Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan placed on disabled list

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 09:12:12 -0700

The Boston Red Sox have placed C Ryan Hanigan (neck) on the 15-day disabled list because of a neck strain.

Fantasy Tip: The 35-year-old Hanigan is batting just .186 with 10 RBI through 70 at-bats this season. Christian Vazquez should see regular playing time behind the plate while Hanigan is sidelined and he's worth owning in AL-only and two-catcher leagues. Sandy Leon was recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket to serve as Vazquez's backup but he possesses little fantasy value.

Red Sox | Blake Swihart, Ryan Hanigan out

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 08:38:55 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Blake Swihart (ankle) and C Ryan Hanigan (neck) are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Sunday, June 5. OF Chris Young will bat eighth and play left field, while C Christian Vazquez starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Young and Vazquez are likely to see regular playing time for the next few weeks, since Swihart and Hanigan have been placed on the disabled list. They're worthy of consideration as roster depth for fantasy teams in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.
